Planet Sedna, the 6th Sign?

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

The newest addition to our solar system is Sedna; what does it mean? And will it impact all the Astrology Signs? NASA released the story that they discovered a new planet in our Solar System, 6.2 Billion miles from Earth called Sedna. The Actual discovery date was Nov. 14, 2003, the story was announced March 15, 2004. It is named after the Innuit Goddess of the Ocean. To make this discovery all that sweeter the story was released about the Hubble Telescope’s discovery on the eve of it’s discontinuation by NASA, for safety and financial reasons. This discovery seems to have saved the fate of the Hubble (for now at least). Does this mean that the Virgo’s of the world now get a new lease on life and the Archetype that represents the Virgin? Or does it impact on of the other astrology signs? It will take time to tell. Sedna moves very slowly and currently is making it’s way through the last decan (10 degrees) of Taurus.

In order to understand how Sedna affects all the astrology signs, let’s take a brief overview of the Sedna Myth. It starts with Sedna as a young girl being forced to marry a man she is not interested in. Senda has very long hair that she is known to sit and brush for hours. Despite her arguments and protestations she is made to marry this man who is beak-faced and lives on an inhospitable Island, where he takes her once they are wed. As his wife she is miserable, forced to live in a cold, bleak environment and eat nothing but fish. She is so unhappy that she sends word back home of her plight and begs to be rescued. Her father and male relatives come by boat to get her, but once she is in the boat with them, her husband who has become a giant bird attacks them relentlessly. The men then throw Sedna overboard in their attempt to save themselves. As she clutches the side of the boat, they hack at her fingers to get free of her, and these digits break off to become the seals, sea lions and whales of the ocean. Sedna then sinks to the bottom of the sea where she rests in turmoil and causes sea storms and environmental havoc. Only the Innuit Shaman who can leave their body to visit her in the Ocean depths can appease this. She is only calmed when they brush her long hair. Now we can begin to answer the question of which astrology sign she seems to fit with.

The name Sedna comes from the mythology of the Innuit people and relates closely to the sea, sea mammals and the shamanic depths of transformation, as well as betrayal. At first glance this may seem to fit for several astrology signs, especially Scorpio. If you have seen the movie, ‘Whale Rider’, you can see the close connection with the Sedna myth in this story as well. One thing that this powerfully feminine archetype does for the planetary weightings of the Zodiac is that it (finally) begins to rebalance the Masculine-Feminine polarity to a more equal level among the planets (it has thus far been dominated by male archetypes). While Astrologers will no doubt hotly debate which Astrology Sign Sedna belongs to (Virgo, Libra, Taurus and Gemini are all candidates), eventually ephemeris data will be collected and become available, you’ll hear more as time progresses. A good argument can be made that Sedna belongs to the Astrology Sign of Virgo, the Virgin huntress. A connection to Virgo also exists in the Archetype of Virgo, which contains within it the myth of Persephone who was kidnapped by Hades, God of the Underworld as her mother, Demeter grieved.

In order to find the proper Astrology sign for Sedna to rule we will need to observe what happens in our world. At the deepest level the Archetype of Sedna seems very much connected to the idea of personal freedom, choice and consequences, especially of an overwhelming nature or connected to Natural Disasters. These have increased since Senda’s discovery, namely with Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean Tsunami. As the most outspoken proponent of global ecological responsibility, Al Gore has become a public figurehead for this subject. And with Sedna currently closing in on his Natal Venus (values) he has been making a major statement about our collective need to change our global values and priorities and make Green the highest of priorities. This alone makes a strong case for Senda belonging to the Astrology sign of Virgo and seems to fit squarely into the overall theme of Senda. The good news about a new planet is that with each new discovery a level of consciousness is always awakened on a global scale. With Senda’s discovery, the Greening of our mass consciousness seems to be on the rise. And eventually Astrologers will (perhaps) agree on an Astrological sign for Senda to belong to.

March Horoscope

March 2007Welcome to Chakra Astrology. This look reflects the wisdom of the ancients. Each sign is ruled by one of the 7 planets (stars) that can be seen in the sky with our eyes. From the top down, they are: Jupiter, the Moon, Venus, Mercury, the Sun, Mars and Saturn. These 7 planets equate with the 7 Chakras, which is reflected by the colors below. Each sign is color coded to match the Chakra it corresponds with.General forcast for March:
The first few days of March are great for family, and financial planning. Charisma and charm are working for those soul families who keep the ties close and strong, and it leads to blessings and even positive publicity right now. For the first half of the month you may see many people trying to make oil and water work together, and some options might seem to work for a while. This is hopeful when getting opposing teams to work together, but remember that nothing can force them to blend forever, no matter how much we try. So keep the nature of what is and isn’t truly possible in mind when joining forces with others. You can save yourself later disappointment this way.

March is Eclipse Month. 2007 Eclipse patterns put the focus on health and well being (Virgo) and it’s opposing counter point, spiritual balance and right relationship with Spirit (Pisces). The Full Moon on March 3/4 is a Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo (13′) indicating intense emotional release of some sort, as well as the revelation of something that has been kept secret. The New Moon on March 19 is a Solar Eclipse in Pisces (28′) indicating something suddenly being removed which leads to a new beginning.

March Eclipses: Half of this Year’s annual Eclipse pattern takes place in March. This year’s Eclipse Theme is all about health, spirituality, service industries, employee rights and issues of religion and music, among other things. March 3/4 there is a total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo, which may reveal hidden agendas surrounding those industries that are meant to be of service to us as a population. Also be aware of your pets, health, daily routines and any employees you may have – unexpected surprises are likely in these areas between Feb. and April. The Solar Eclipse on March 19 can take things or people away from us – especially public figures in the arenas of religion, spirituality, and music. This Eclipse theme speaks to spiritual awakenings and deepening of personal and spiritual service to our world and our community. The Academy Award nod for the Al Gore movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” is a perfect example.Get your free Chakra Astrology Teleclass series at: AstrologyChick.com Right Now!

SAGITTARIUS (11/23-12/22) – Take a lesson from Britney and don’t let emotions get the best of you this month. With the Eclipses on your angles (and hers), emotional outbursts are not a good idea, but very tempting. Rebellion against authority figures will only cause you problems, and if you hold on long enough, you’ll be surprised at the opportunity that emerges out of this chaos.
PISCES (2/21-3/20) – A complete transformation of your partnerships and alliances is scheduled now for you. This will be easier for those who have a level head and are able to keep emotional balance – a very difficult proposition now, but I know you can do it. Fear is the enemy, not people. The times may be changing, but I know you can roll with it gracefully and graciously, the presence of Venus in Pisces is a big help.
CANCER (6/23-7/22) – If you talk about health and habits, it isn’t the same thing as actually doing it. Now is the time to put your heart where your words are and take action. You may feel called, or even compelled to teach or communicate with others on a much larger level, through some new group or educational affiliation. LIBRA (9/23-10/22) Oh dear, things really do feel off kilter now in your kingdom. Strange or unexplainable health issues are just as much a spiritual or energetic issue as they are physical. Entering into a deep relationship with the mystery of life is the only way to solve the unexplained.
TAURUS (4/21-5/21) The Eclipses could reveal an opportunity for you, particularly one that causes you to become fruitful in some way, be it creatively or physically. Your social standing could also change and your status among your peers might suddenly be elevated or singled out for attention. This isis totally unexpected but opens up a huge opportunity for you. VIRGO (8/23-9/22) If you feel emotional and in need of expressing your deep inner self right now then pay attention; this is deep stuff. Everything about your ever day life and routines is in question now, and only you can decide where your priorities lie. Partnerships are also in flux, so don’t count on someone else to make things clear for you now.
GEMINI (5/22-6/22) These changes effect your angles which can shake you on a very deep level. You might be in the middle of some very intense changes; of residence, of career and even perhaps a few changes of heart and costume. Don’t expect things to flow smoothly now, this is a part of you souls unfolding that won’t be nice and neat, all you can do is roll with it and give it time. LEO (7/23-8/22) – It’s all about Money for you right now. Your attention is on both your own money and that of other people – and how you can make use of it. You must either be resourceful now, or feel some intense pressure; maybe both. You can pull something amazing off though if you just focus your intention and make sure not to get in your own way.
ARIES (3/21-4/20) For you the Eclipse pattern takes place in the arena that could give you dreams that are more intense than usual or even somewhat predictive. You may also be feeling a strong desire to clean up your health and eating habits – that’s a great idea and now is just the time to do it – especially if it includes an intestinal cleanse. SCORPIO (10/23-11/22) An offspring suddenly appears or has new life *this can just as easily refer to a creative project as anything else.* Social details are more thorny than expected, so be really careful to mind your manners in public; people are easily offended or likely to misunderstand your gestures. But you have a way of making use of all obstacles, and this is no different.
AQUARIUS (1/22-2/20) How can you be of service to the most people possible? Answering that question thoroughly could very well unlock the mystery of how you are to make your fortune. By serving and making alliances with others of service you will find freedom, peace and fulfillment. The opportunity knocks, but will you be at home? CAPRICORN (12/23-1/21) A spiritual message is on it’s way to you, but only you have the magic decoder ring to unlock it’s meaning. In order to do so, you must delve into your own unconscious and interpret the signals it’s sending. Oh, and you might like to do a little redecorating while you are in there, make it a fun cozy place to be.

Oscar Winners

Monday, February 26th, 2007

And the winner is…
In my previous Oscar Winner predictions post Oscar and the Eclipses; Two of my four picks were winners on Sunday, and even though I should have picked Helen Mirren to win for “The Queen” I did make a good argument for it in my previous post about the Eclipses and the Sag Awards. Virgo Jennifer Hudson was the real Oscar story though, coming out of the blue to win.
Beyond that the nostalgia factor was definitely there, and Oscar Winner Scorsese got his long overdue recognition; even though it was for the wrong movie! Certainly, “Taxi Driver,” and “Raging Bull” are foundational pillars of Film History, not to mention, “Mean Streets” and “Goodfellas.” But nobody ever said that Oscar was on time. In fact, he’s usually very OFF time. Personally, I was glad to see him acknowledge his daughter Dominica in his speech, since I remember when she spent a week sleeping on the couch of my Venice Apartment. She had her own apartment but had given it up to the producers of a film she was doing, …. The world of film is often far from glamorous. Anyway, daughter Dominica is in fact a Virgo – and thus falls in line with all the Eclipse trends, making it no real surprise to see her on screen at the Oscar ceremony.

I guess I coulda won some money if I’d actually bet on this Oscar season full of movies that I haven’t even seen, since I picked at least 3 of the top Oscar Winners. But I WAS glad to see Oscar honors go to the one movie I did actually get to the theater for: “Pan’s Labyrinth” which I highly recommend. It was a visually stunning, and very melancholy grown up fairy tale. The movie was fully carried by pint sized actress Ivana Baquero who really deserved her own Oscar nod. But then, she’s not one of the favored signs this season. She’s a Gemini (June 11, 1994) which is one of the signs getting tormented by this Eclipse. Still she played the tormented one beautifully in the movie.

The other notable point about the Virgo Eclipse and the winners this Oscar season is the fact that Virgo has a relationship to the world of tailoring and the technical side of the clothing industry. It is not lost on me that the Star of “The Devil Wears Prada,” Anne Hathaway has been almost universally maligned for her Oscar’s dress. It’s not that the dress was SO very terrible, but the fit was, and produced a ‘lumpy’ effect. Not good on a pretty girl. Someone should have hired her a great Virgo tailor to get it right. By the way, there were a lot of bad dresses out there, and a few realy stunning ones, like the one Oscar Winner Hellen Mirren wore that made her look so very pretty.

But for my money the real Oscar winner yesterday was our hostess Ari Altfeld who’s gourmet tappas coulda shamed those at even the best Oscar Parties. This girl’s got talent!

Oscars and the Astrology for the Week

Continued from my Weekly Horoscope Newsletter. See the bottom of this article To subscribe.

The Virgo/Pisces opposition relates to the concept of “Serve or Suffer.” Gearing up for the March Eclipse pairing in Virgo/Pisces has been very hard on Sagittarius celebrities; namely Anna Nicole Smith (Nov 28) and Britney Spears (Dec 2), not to mention Brad Pitt (Dec 18) who won the Golden Globe but didn’t even get nominated by the Academy.  The Eclipses should also add drama and a big element of the unexpected to this years Academy Awards which takes place 1 week before the Virgo Total Lunar Eclipse on March 3/4.  Eclipse effects can be felt up to two months before and after they take place.   This Complete Lunar Eclipse on March 3/4 is extremely emotional and irrational (as evidenced by Britneys impulsive buzz job).  My best suggestion for heading such drama off at the pass is Hypnotherapy and Meditation work.  When you go right to the source, you can solve the problem before it actually IS a problem.

Because this year the Oscars take place during the Retrograde of Mercury, nostalgia is more likely than usual. For this reason, my money is on Martin Scorsese to finally win an Oscar nod.  I will also favor movies that refer to or tell tales about the past over contemporary stories.  This means that “The Queen,” and “The Last King of Scotland” Should both walk away with honors.  Looking at the chart for Oscar himself, Mercury is elevated – no surprise there.  What hits me about this is that, at the deepest level Oscar loves communication, genius and the fascination for a brilliant and technical expression of ideas.  While he is Retrograde in Pisces right now, he reflects on the past and the history of himself.  Get ready for a long and nostalgic awards show.  Not only that, but the upcoming Solar Eclipse in Pisces on March 18/19 sets the stage for some reprecussions and ripples that will be felt around March 30 as Mercury walks through the Lunar Doorway and then again April 9th when Mercury walks through the Solar Doorway that the Eclipse’s have opened up.  We can expect a twisting and turning of fate and information around this time.  More information about Anna Nicole and Britney is also very likely at these times.

I am going to go out on a limb here and make Oscar picks based solely on the Eclipse effects.  I should note here that I have seen almost none of these movies, but here are my picks nonetheless.

Leonardo DiCaprio (11 Nov 1974)

Happy Chinese New Year

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

Welcome to the Year of the Pig!

The Chinese New Year is here, and with it comes a whole change of mood. Today we leave the Dog behind and embrace the Pig. Pucker up Kermit.

A few highlights of the Pig:

  • Pigs are prosperous. This is great for all types of buisiness and luxury.
  • Pigs like good food. Indulgences increase this year, and this could add to the bottom line. That’s great for the bank account, but not so good for fitting into your favorite jeans.
  • Pigs have good taste, but they can be fussy. When only the best will do, extra effort is often required. This is more pleasant for people who tend to prefer status and expensive goods than those who are more straight forward, unfussy ‘meat and potato’ types.
  • Pigs are usually pleasant and easygoing – as long as they have their creature comforts that is. When a pig loses their temper, run for the hills. This is a simmering pot that creates quite a scene if ever they blow their lid. Fortunatly Pigs hate confrontation or messiness of all kinds so this may only happen once or twice in any Pigs lifetime.

Baby’s born this year will exhibit the qualities above. The year itself will be stacked towards these tendencies, and we should all feel it. This year is most successful for people born in the years of the Goat, Monkey and Rabbit(Cat). To learn what Animal Year you were born in CLICK HERE.

This Pig is a FIRE Pig: which makes for more passion than other Pigs, and also a greater tendency towards temper. This year we should watch out for the disire to hold onto that which we feel entitled to. But we can also experience greater heights of emotional and physical passion this year. This is a year where we must all address our unconscious desires and urges in order to prevent ourselves from having moments where we ‘lose our head.’ Sudden and unexpected hotheadedness can express itself as acts of temper, uncontrollable passion, ambition or competition. The desire to win is very strong and will lead us to work very hard towards our ambitions.

Mercury is Retrograde once Again…

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

This time the Retrograde of Mercury takes place in Pisces, causing a lot of mental fog and confusion. We’re all likely to do a good impression of the absentminded professor during this 3 week Retrograde of Mercury. But the news isn’t all bad. It’s good to remember that Mercury itself isn’t a powerful enough planet to do anything too terrible when he makes his backtrack in the sky. But he can be confusing.

The best strategy during the Retrograd Mercury is to pay close attention to the details and not be surprised when you have to redo something that you thought was finished. Also don’t be surprised when old jobs, bills, friends and ex-lovers emerge suddenly and without warning. I like to look at this as the chance to get closure, clear the energy and free yourself up for something new to enter your life. This is extremely positive if we make constructive use of the Mercury Retrograde Review that we are now being asked to do.

Remember that Mercury Retrograde in Pisces has an impact on group dynamics of all kinds, including storytelling, dreams, fantasies, music and mysticism. So use this information accordingly. One example of the sorts of things that this Mercury retrograde could impact might be re-editing a musical recording or your own personal library. Surely things will be improved if you use this current three week cycle to re-do something that is Piscean in your life. Mercury Retrograde can be very useful that way, and this one also has a specific impact on health, and health related professions.
