Pluto: Planet of Power

January 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

Pluto: Planet of PowerIn the mythology of ancient Greece, PLUTO was the son of URANUS and the brother of JUPITER and NEPTUNE. When JUPITER became king of the gods by castrating their tyrannical father URANUS, he divided the world into three kingdoms for the brothers to rule. JUPITER took Mt. Olympus (normal waking consciousness) as his domain, NEPTUNE was given control over the oceans and waters (dreams, visions, fantasies and mysticism), and PLUTO took the underworld as his domain. The underworld could be equated with the ID in psychological terms. PLUTO’s domain of rulership includes basic animal drives for sex and survival as well as power and control issues. He also represents the inherent ability of an individual to rejuvenate, transform, and resurrect oneself, as well as issues related to recycling. PLUTO determines the use or abuse of overwhelming or uncontrollable forces such as nuclear fusion. Is it an accident that one of the most deadly substances ever unleashed by man is called Plutonium? Is it co-incidence that the discovery of the planet PLUTO by modern Astronomers coincides with the interest and early discovery of sub-atomic matter, such as the atom, it’s nucleus and the proton and the neutron? The forces unleashed by these tiny particles are under the rulership of PLUTO, however the knowledge and curiosity to do so falls under the domain of the mentally brilliant URANUS. At the time when this knowledge was put to use by scientists there existed a 10-year conjunction between these two planets, allowing their domains to overlap and merge. This resulted in the ability for humans to unleash the awesome and potentially devastating forces used in nuclear physics.

The oldest religions on this planet believe in the law of karma, which states that there are no accidents or co-incidences, that everything happens for a reason and that there is a divine plan behind everything in Gods universe. Astrology states that PLUTO is responsible for the evolution of humanity, both individually and collectively. It does seem true that if humanity as a whole doesn’t learn to evolve then we may just ameliorate ourselves, either with one swift kick through nuclear Armageddon or slowly through the systematic destruction of the environment and its natural resources. However, the ability of PLUTO to change and transform that which he touches does make it seem possible for us to evolve our consciousness to a level where we truly embrace a philosophy of brother and sisterhood.

Scorpio is the only sign ruled by PLUTO, which could explain why they have earned such an intense reputation. Scorpio has 3 symbols, representing the three levels of soul development found under its domain. The Scorpion is the lowest manifestation of Scorpio characteristics, engaging in the pettiest battles for control, survival and sexual conquest. These are the depths to which Scorpio can slide, represented by such entities as the Mafia, the Black Market and assassin groups. The second and most common form of Scorpio is the serpent; a being that recognizes the need for periodic renewal, regularly shedding old belief systems, habits and behaviors. These people are capable of some intense power struggles, but have learned the wisdom to let go when something no longer fits. These are the people who instinctually know how to be there for others during their most intense moments of loss and crisis. The third form of Scorpio is the Eagle. This Scorpio has learned a spiritual/universal perspective on life and therefore consciously seeks out ways to abolish their own useless ego-centered drives for power and control, instead seeking to relinquish control to their higher God-self. These people often feel a sense of some spiritual calling or mission in life to which they are willing to dedicate their entire being, thereby experiencing the highest bliss of unobstructed union with their Higher Self.

Everyone, not just Scorpio is capable of union with their Higher God Self and the placement of PLUTO in the Natal Chart describe how the individual would most want and need to experience this. PLUTO will make it’s presence felt mostly through the collective experiences of generations of people as they evolve as a group. In an individual PLUTO indicates the lessons and pre-ordained people and experiences that one must confront in order to evolve as a soul.
