Libra The Scales (September 23rd to October 22nd)

I am LIBRA: Compliment me – Ruled by Venus

I am LIBRA: Compliment me - Ruled by VenusOur VENUSIAN friends are not only looking for harmony, symmetry, balance, grace and beauty, they also seek and long for the blending of harmonies, the union of opposites. If they Yin they seek your Yang, if they’re Blue they seek Orange, or Purple for their Yellow. The psychology of the LIBRA cannot exist without a polar opposite through which to define the self.

The SCALED ONES define themselves through both their similarities and their differences to others. No one is more viscerally aware that the human experience is painfully isolated by our individuality, and yet endlessly fascinating because of our differences, comparisons and similarities.

Your LIBRA neighbor can become enthralled ad infinitum with the aesthetics of self and other. Lost in the endless kaleidoscopic fascination of the play of light between individuals, the magnetism and beauty of attraction. The endless harmonies and changing light works set off through human chain reactions can pull our visual LIBRAN into a veritable vortex of fascination, from which they may never emerge.

To call them shallow would, well, be shallow of us. Although your friend the SCALES can indeed appear obsessed with dreamy, frivolous pastimes there are very real forces pulling within them with which they must contend.

LIBRA is the zodiac sign charged with understanding the nature of pairing, partnering and union with others. They are painfully, exquisitely, aware that individually they are alone, and must join forces with others. The entire focus of their being is hurled into an awareness of this need, and the process of understanding, contemplating and creating such unions has such depth, such meaning and such repercussions that they anguish, assess, weigh, balance, question, test, verify, test some more, and generally spend all of their time deciding what to do and how to do it. Until of course they see, feel or learn something new. Then the entire process begins all over again.

The LIBRA more than any other sign must test and retest their own senses. And through this constantly evolving process he comes to understand his own likes and dislikes. It is a slow evolution. She tries spicy peppers because you like them. Hmm, so interesting, fascinating this sensation of burning fire in my mouth. I must understand more. Why do you like this? Pretty soon, sweat pouring down her lovely face she decides, no, I don’t like this. You must be crazy, why would you suggest such a thing to me? But then if you like it, there must be some secret locked within this torturous experience that will lead me to a deeper understanding of my bond with you. And so it goes for the SCALE PERSON testing one thing and then another against all previously known experience. Seeking to understand. A never-ending journey to be sure.

And yes, the LIBRA person has a well developed sense of aesthetics. They want life to be pleasing to the senses. They want to be pleasing to the senses and to be appreciated as such. Worship her, and she will worship you back. Trouble is, all this art, beauty and illusion can become, well, a bit stagnant.

Like water that sits still for too long, your LIBRA has been know to get a bit muddy. This is how he learns from his complimentary sign ARIES – who teaches him about the value of action, motion and enthusiasm. Ultimately the SCALE-BEARER learns to understand all this union, balance, testing and verification as part of a life filled with direction, process and motion. And then he finds his place in the world as the judge and champion for the virtue of fairness.

If you love a LIBRA stare deeply into his eyes. Compliment him or her, both with words, and with your actions. Shower beauty upon her. Take him to a museum. But most of all convey with your words and actions your respect for the bond, mutuality and union that you share together. They will fill your days and nights with dreamy romance, poetic musings, and lyrical lovemaking

Scorpio The Scorpion (October 23rd to November 22nd)

I am SCORPIO: Overwhelm me – Ruled by Pluto (and Mars)

I am SCORPIO: Overwhelm me - Ruled by Pluto (and Mars)The legend of the SCORPIO precedes them. Even before he or she enters the room, before they open their mouths to utter a peep the whole room has inexplicably hushed in anticipation. Everyone is watching, in that studied nonchalant way that betrays the fact that of course, they themselves are not SCORPIO’S. You see, to the SCORP himself, all this attention is annoyingly silly, trivial really. ‘So what if I’m a little bit intense,’ she thinks. ‘If they can’t handle it then they can just buzz off, I couldn’t care less,’ he tells himself. But secretly they wonder why other people are always so fascinated with them, why other people always seem to make up and believe these Machiavellian intrigues about them. ‘All I did was answer the phone,’ she scoffs, ‘and now everyone is buzzing on about how I am having a secret affair with that Italian Grand Prix driver. Hmm, he does have a nice ass though.’

Is she or isn’t she? It certainly wouldn’t be beyond the SCORPION to punish an inattentive or abusive partner or lover for their insouciance. And never mind the fact that sex in all it’s variations and permutations is endlessly fascinating to them, occupying more than enough of their mental real estate to qualify as a National Monument. It’s no wonder that they keep their mouths firmly shut, secreting away their private thoughts. After all, they understand all too well that if they let it slip that they think so-and-so has great curves, before they know it everyone will be eyeing them suspiciously.

You see SCORPIO’S are comfortable, no make that fascinated with power in all it’s forms and permutations. And since very few things really frighten them, they can’t understand why they should frighten everyone else. Spend the night in that haunted house? You bet! Says the SCORP, no wonder other people get a little bit uneasy around them sometimes.

On some level all SCORPIO’S are dealing with karma of feeling unwanted or deeply thwarted at a profound and deep level. For this reason he or she is fascinated with what makes all of humanity tick. Deep, searching and penetrating minds belong to these people, not to mention sexy, charismatic, magnetic, brooding personalities and eyes that bore right through you seeming to look into your very soul. Well, don’t bother trying to hide in there; they readily understand the most intense, overwhelming and often unconscious motives that exist in the human psyche. They already live there.

And this is why they are represented by not one but three symbols in Astrology. They learn about themselves through the concepts represented by their opposing power – TAURUS, namely consistency, stability, and self-sufficiency of resources and an appreciation of the physical. Once they have transcended the intense, reactive reptilian–brained reactions associated with the SCORPION, they learn to become the SERPENT, legendary for his healing and rejuvenating powers. You see once our slinky friend has learned to transcend his baser motives, he is glad to assist you in doing the same – provided that you are willing to be as honest as he was in looking into your own sub-conscious and confronting the demons that lurk there. And finally the EAGLE or sometimes the PHOENIX represents the highest form of SCORPIO. This is the light gentle incarnation of SCORPIO. These are the ones who soar on vision quests and lead the rest of us to an understanding and appreciation of a higher order.

If you love a SCORPIO, study Transcendental Meditation with them, or better yet, Tantric Yoga. Share your deepest secrets and thoughts with her, promise undying loyalty. Your sexy SCORPIO will find every secret passionate place within you and play you like a violin. They are really seeking depth, merging and connection. Once he has captured you, he wants to keep you for good.

Sagittarius The Centaur November 23rd to December 22nd

I am SAGITTARIUS: Explore me – Ruled by Jupiter

I am SAGITTARIUS: Explore me - Ruled by JupiterRoaming free upon the plains, wandering hither and yon this strapping young CENTAUR boldly goes where no man, er, horse has gone before. Or at least that’s the way our SAGITTARIAN friends imagine it. If she could have her way she would discover and immerse herself in every new culture, continent and galaxy available.

Endlessly fascinated by the places and people they have yet to meet, SAG’S are born explorers. It’s as if the world doesn’t really exist until they have turned over every rock, examined every leaf and poured themselves into every nook and cranny of it. They are born observers and commentators, and wherever you find groups of people gathered together, the CENTAUR will be drawn, as if by magnetic force, right into the center of the action. They are energetic to a fault, causing would-be traveling companions to drop like flies from exhaustion. Often you will find her in the center of the action, as, say, a professional athlete. But if injury or lack of athletic talent keeps him off the court, he’ll be commentating, making jokes and generally rousing the crowd to a state of enthusiastic fervor, or hysterical laughter. Oh yes, these people can be very, very funny.

As physically restless as the SAGITTARIUS usually is, he is equally restless mentally, seeking to engage and understand as many points of view and philosophy as can be crammed into one life span of experience. She may love to read, but she longs to go to the places she reads about, it’s only fear that holds her back. And it is always experience that the SAG native seeks out. You see, to some extent every last one of them feels like a Stranger in a Strange Land. And as such they do all they can to grok the local customs. It is in fact astonishing how many CENTAURS there are who move to a country other than the one they were born in, or who marry someone from a different culture than their own. Somehow they all feel like they didn’t quite fit into the mores and customs of their origins and so they strike out into the world to understand themselves and the place they came from. It is this kind of attitude that lands men and women on the moon, and teaches us new languages, cultural experiences and philosophies. Broadening horizons, for themselves, and everyone they have contact with is their secret purpose. Usually they disguise it very well under a magnanimous, JUPITERIAN smile, and an optimistic wave. Oh, they can be zealous, but you usually enjoy their company too much to take offense.

They are perhaps some of the luckiest people you know. Things just seem to fall into place for them. As he jaunts off into the sunset with barely two nickels to rub together you wonder what will ever become of the cockeyed, gawky lug, stumbling off into the sunset as he trips over his own oversized feet. And then 6 months, or 10 years later he returns with a Galleon filled with gold and raucous tales of adventure to share with you. But then that money disappears as easily as it arrived and he’s off into the sunset again. One might even get the feeling that to a CENTAUR, having a good story to tell is worth more than all the tea in China. And you would be right. These are our natural storytellers, and as such, often find themselves loved and revered for being so damned entertaining.

GEMINI, the natural compliment for SAG teaches them much about communication. You see people get annoyed when the Heroine of the story gallops off without a word. Ultimately, the philosopher in CENTAUR’S clothing learns to make an impact on people both hither and yon, by communicating with them, using words and sharing ideas. And then our Hero takes his place at the table as translator bringing ideas together to form something greater than before.

If you love one of these wandering adventurers, don’t even think about tying him or her down. Keep a bag packed at all times and get ready to explore the world. Get really good at telling jokes, and keep them chasing you. Make yourself unavailable, and exotic. Your CENTAUR will gladly play hide and seek with you over and over again, and exhaust you with the sheer athleticism of their lovemaking. Maybe you won’t have to play hide after all, maybe you’ll just need a break!

Capricorn The Goat (December 23rd to January 21st)

I am CAPRICORN: Honor me – Ruled by Saturn

capricorn.gifStanding tall, shoulders back, solemn look on his face our CAPRICORN friends long to achieve the pinnacle of their profession, drawing the esteem and respect of their peers. Awards, medals, trophies, status symbols, titles and other distinctions of honor are coveted, and usually achieved by the rugged mountain GOAT.

Trouble is, that mountain is really tall, and really, really rocky, with icy peaks, and even, shudder, avalanches. No matter, the tougher the challenge, the more interested our patient planner is in reaching that highest pinnacle. You see he seeks to view the world from lofty heights, and by gum, he’ll get there, no matter who or what he has to kill to do it. Not that all CAP’S have a heartless streak, it’s just that many of them can’t understand other people’s weepy sentimentality. ‘Life is hard,’ your local GOAT snorts, ‘let’s get on with it.’ And she bounds effortlessly up a 90-degree incline, leaving you shaking in your hiking boots.

You see the goal is the thing for these people. He can be guilty of valuing the idea of the thing more than the thing or the process itself. And they want evidence, solid tangible proof of their successes. Because without that, he or she fears that they will not exist. So, so serious, the CAPRICORN is yoked with his own impossibly high standards, and has little interest in all that namby-pamby self-help hooey. Chin up, onward the good soldier marches. Above all else he feels the need to leave a legacy behind him, something to prove she was there after she is dead and gone. Just to prove to the world that they could, would, and in fact did accomplish what they set out to.

But where did all this self-doubt come from in the first place? Why such a strong need to make a mark on the world? To be sure, most people just look at their GOAT friends and marvel at their wonderful cheekbones, physical agility and apparent ability to get younger as time marches unforgivingly onward, not to mention their determined ability to just plain ‘get the job done.’

The legacy of such a strict SATURNIAN planetary ruler cannot be ignored though. And brings to our CAP natives an inner fear, insecurity and stoic acceptance of life as challenge and pain. But the news is not all bad, oh no. Many of our CAPPY friends have learned to find the wry irony in life, and these are the ones who will have you rolling on the floor with a dry, unexpected delivery of some of the funniest one liners you have ever heard. But don’t forget the tears of the clown. Often this humor is born of common pain and a deep understanding of human suffering.

The watery depths of CANCER compliment the CAPRICORN temperament, and through its lessons of human connection, feeling, bonding and loss the GOAT ultimately learns to slow down and smell the flowers along the way (as he chews on one for nourishment). The ones who have learned this lesson in life are the ones who share the humor and joy with the rest of us and work for a deeper purpose. Ultimately he can actually learn to enjoy and share his inner burdens with others, and maybe even get a break or two from that relentless inner driving force. And breaking through her Chanel-clad image, you find a remarkably practical, no-nonsense gold-hearted soul, who knows exactly how to make things happen in the world. CAP’S are amazingly effective when they set their minds to something, and know just how to deal with bureaucracy and red tape. They just need to learn to enjoy the process and connect with their fellow souls on the journey. They are more loved than they think.

If you love one of these serious people, give them a massage. Have a trophy made at the local trophy shop commending them just for being them – NOT for what they can, have, or will accomplish. Love her, tell her she is wonderful, and approve of him for his human qualities, and more and more of them will be revealed to you. The talented person who knows how to pull this CAPRICORN out of their shell will be rewarded with randy and inventive sex, and beautiful trinkets and jewels as evidence of your CAP’S feelings for you, so what if she has trouble actually saying it.

Aquarius The Water Carrier January 22nd to February 20th

I am AQUARIUS: Dazzle me – Ancient Ruler Saturn, Modern Ruler Uranus

aquarius the water bearerInnovative, inventive, brilliant and very unusual the AQUARIUS soul is nothing if not unique, sometimes terminally so. Our quizzical resident genius is usually the one who got dressed so quickly in the morning that his shoes are on the wrong feet and her bra is on over her shirt. Yes, the WATER-BEARER often elicits snickers from their fellow humans at they’re seeming ineptitude at normal human affairs. However, Just as often, these same smirking neighbors become stunned at the strokes of genius and innovation that the absent-minded professor-cum-mad-scientist produces.

One thing to be sure about your AQUARIAN friends, is that they don’t usually get too involved in these dynamics of human power play. They are far too busy figuring out new mathematical theorems, locked into the computer, or conceiving of ways to slice bread faster, better, and with less mess. Serving humanity is the goal of this complex thinker, and he can often forget about himself in the process, ergo that moldy sandwich sitting in the corner. ‘You brought that in on Tuesday, and today is Thursday? Hmm, that means I haven’t eaten in two days. No wonder I was feeling light headed.’ Everything gets sublimated to the ideas and thoughts that are rattling around in this person’s head.

The more complex the idea the better, she is bored with simple algorithms and will go out to seek more challenging mental stimulation. The brilliance of this mind is not to be underestimated. But just as importantly, we will all be better off it is also not wasted. You see, due to his need for such complex mentality, he will seek out trouble and troublemakers, if for no other reason than to try and understand them. After all what could be more fascinating than the incongruities of human behavior? ‘Illogical, captain,’ says Dr. Spock. And yet we somehow always get the sense that Mr. Spock is fascinated with trying to logically understand the irrational emotional machinery that makes the rest of us tick.

And then your AQUARIAN friend gets himself into an even more fevered line of analysis, sure that this time he can solve the unsolvable. And much to the surprise of all involved, even himself, sometimes he does. And it’s another leap forward for mankind.

You may have noticed how unswervingly, relentlessly, bull-doggedly attached to an idea the WATER-BEARER can become. And it is useless to argue the point with them. ‘There are absolutes in life,’ he rails. ‘Right is right and wrong is wrong.’ This person is so idealistic that one wonders sometimes how it is possible to live inside their heads. For her ideals are not something to be discussed or striven towards, they are laws, ironclad, immutable and as tangible as that rock cliff over there, and just as binding as gravity. It doesn’t matter if you don’t see things the same way they do. To the AQUARIAN there is only one way to see things. After all, his logic is impeccable, and so, like a math problem, are his conclusions. Trouble is, the human heart isn’t so cut and dried in it’s movements.

And so, the AQUARIUS learns through the concepts and qualities represented by his opposing archetype of LEO. This teaches him about the passion and fire of participation in life and the ability to stand tall and declare his own presence. Ultimately our WATER-BEARING genius discovers that by using her mental prowess to innovate the human experience she fulfills her need to simplify the complexity of the universe. And he simultaneously learns to participate in the mass experience through the strength of his own irrational drives and feelings.

If you love one of these easily distracted people, then become their best friend, pry them out of their isolation and take them to a party. Gently nudge them to pay attention to the mundane, annoyingly base needs of the human body. The AQUARIAN is kinky once you can get them in bed and she falls for a person who embodies their highest ideals. So if you can manage to become a fairy princess, a saint, or mother Theresa he will place you on a pedestal and revere you as the inspiration for all of his accomplishments.

How does it feel to be a Muse?

Pisces The Fish (February 21st to March 19th)

I am PISCES: Dream me – Ruled by Neptune

I am PISCES: Dream me - Ruled by NeptuneImaginative, poetic, glamorous, and ethereal are the FISH folk among us. Like the inhabitants of their underwater wonderland these people seem to live life by a different set of rules than those of us on solid land. Gravity may not apply, and visuals get all distorted and hypnotic once you enter the domain of a PISCES person. Frothy and bubbly these people skip across the surface of life, playing with reflections on the surface of the water.

Like the proverbial bathing beauty in a bath full of bubbles, there is a certain allure and lyricism to their every move. No doubt the term ‘poetry in motion,’ was coined to describe one of these misty creatures. It doesn’t seem to matter how crisp the lighting is, your PISCEAN always seems a little bit blurry. It could just be the illusions and fantasies that your FISHY FRIEND manufactures as a matter of course clouding your eyes. Blink, blink, and now this FISH may seem to have changed shape, or size, or clothing, or… something.

It’s just that they are so damned sensitive! Hurt a FISH’S feelings and suddenly they go all cold fish on you, freezing you with the icicles that fall off their scaly selves. It can be really difficult to get a handle on this elusive creature. And don’t expect them to help you much either. She is far too enamored with her own variable, mystical, lyrical, changeable nature. He loves being an International Man of Mystery way too much to let you in on his secrets. The PISCES, to be sure is having a grand old time keeping everyone guessing whom he or she really is.

They are in fact fascinated with disguise, costume and illusion. ‘Ahhh, the roar of the crowd! The Smell of the greasepaint,’ is her anthem. Indeed this can be extremely confusing, not just to you, but to the FISH PERSON themselves. All this chameleon business can get pretty confusing. It’s just that they are so acutely psychically aware of what you want from them and the illusions that you project on them, who could blame them for helping you believe exactly what they want you to believe? Once in a while your PISCES can be a little bit deceptive, after all he is a master illusionist, move over Sigfreid and Roy.

The trouble is, sometimes she loses track of which person she really is in the process, and upon waking from an illusion soaked dream world she must face someone in the mirror. And this can send our two-directional FISH onto a long spiritual journey where they may discover that they can access even better ecstatic states of consciousness without drugs than they ever managed with them. You see the soul of the PISCES is seeking the spiritual source, and they are all natural mystics with a certain sway and influence over others.

Through learning to embrace their polar opposite VIRGO the PISCES person learns to pay attention to the details, to be clear, routine, and healthy. Once these lessons are integrated we find our fine FISHY fellow breaking down their talents into nice little palatable bites for the rest of us to share in, and like manna from heaven the PISCES teaches us to fulfill our spiritual needs and thereby nourish our souls and give life meaning. No small task to be sure. It’s no wonder that so many of them seek to avoid it and play in the shallow realms of life.

If you love a FISH provide them with lots of delight and poetry. Buy her gems, art and make-up. Take him to a show, the glitzier the better. Go on a pilgrimage with them, or better yet help them start their own religion. You will never tire of the endless ways your PISCES comes up with to keep your attention and fulfill your every fantasy.

Neptune: Planet of Illusion

Neptune: Planet of IllusionNEPTUNE was one son of URANUS in Greek myth. After JUPITER liberated his two brothers, NEPTUNE and PLUTO from their father’s belly they had to decide on territory for each to rule. They divided their father’s kingdom into three realms; the heavens, the underworld, and the depths of the oceans. JUPITER won rulership of Mount Olympus (the heavens), PLUTO got Hades (the underworld) and NEPTUNE became the king of the oceans (the psychic realms). When in the water, images become distorted, gravity is different and movement takes on a new dimension. Therefore NEPTUNE represents illusion, glamour, feelings of a psychic nature and anything that is generally confusing.

NEPTUNE lives at the bottom of the ocean where gems and riches are everywhere, but they are certainly not easy to get to using ordinary methods. NEPTUNE however does not need riches, since his world is rich with food, and life is simple. NEPTUNE represents the astral plane, which is the Dream State, world of imagination. Our normal senses fail us in their normal use when we are dealing with this planet’s energy. In order to obtain the gifts NEPTUNE has for us we must learn to relate to him on his terms. NEPTUNE is a benevolent god figure, but he is completely uninterested in the mundane workings of our everyday lives. He is only interested in the soul. For this reason his domain includes; religion, mysticism, inspirational art, gems, jewelry, music and poetry. NEPTUNE struggles to illuminate the soul’s experience even within the limited means we have when not in the water.

NEPTUNE has a propensity for living in a dream world, this makes for great poets but under it’s influence we might forget to take the trash out. The greatest challenge in dealing with NEPTUNE is sorting reality out from fantasy. A little fantasy can be a good thing, in fact the soul craves it. But taken too far, fantasy can lead to delusion, fanaticism, drug addiction, or even mental illness. A strong NEPTUNE in the Natal Chart can impart psychic gifts, but the way these gifts are used is completely up to the individual.

NEPTUNE is the ocean, and all other forms of water for that matter. NEPTUNE makes us aware that we are all mostly made of water and for this reason it is no secret to him that we are really all one, even though the convention of our reality prevents us from seeing that. But if we listen to him we can sense it. It is through this inner sensing that we come to know our own soul by way of dreams, visions and love of humanity.

Since NEPTUNE rules Pisces, all Pisces natives will need to define reality and their spiritual purpose within it during their lifetime. They must learn to confront unpleasantness and deal with it, thereby transcending the ordinary human limitations, which frustrate them and lead the rest of us to the mystic realms, which they consider their real home. For more information about NEPTUNE on your personality, you may want to have a Natal Chart Interpretation.

The Moon: Ruler of the Emotions

The Moon: Ruler of the EmotionsThe MOON is the archetypal symbol for feminine, receptive energy. In all ancient cultures the MOON was worshipped, usually as a feminine symbol. The MOON moves through its cycle very quickly, which is why it has a reputation for causing moodiness, changeability, sensitivity and delusions. The MOON governs emotions, dreams and longing. It is the endless ebb and flow of all cycles in life, such as the tides. This is the energy of the vast sub-conscious, which gives forms to all the dreams, emotions and fears contained by humanity. The MOON also rules sleep, and desires or needs that come from a deeper source than our conscious understanding. This is why human behavior can become erratic and bizarre under the MOON’s influence. Most Police officers are aware that violent crime and incidents of drunk driving increase dramatically during the full MOON. The word lunatic is based on the Latin root luna, which means MOON. Imbalances in the MOON or lunar energy in a Natal Chart can indicate deep emotional issues to be dealt with and sleep disorders. However, the MOON can also impart extreme sensitivity, visual acuity, good memory, and the ability to comfort and nurture. Cancer is the only sign ruled by the MOON. Cancers usually have an innate understanding of deep human emotion. Cancers are sensitive, caring and emotional, or if they see these qualities as weaknesses, they can be insensitive and unkind. Generally this unkindness is a way of covering their deep feelings of insecurity. Either way they are responding to the element of emotion in their natures. The challenge of course is to find an appropriate and useful way to deal with their feelings, which can be very overdeveloped.

Since Cancer is related to women, it often indicates a strong or difficult relationship with the mother. Many times Cancer people did not feel as though they got their needs met by their mother, and this sets up an emotional tug-of-war between their feelings and the needs that they feel another can fulfill. This is why people complain that the Cancer person can be ‘moody’ in relationships. The Cancer person has strong emotional needs and a great capacity for depth in relationship, but they also have great fears about being emotionally vulnerable to another person. Vulnerability means the threat of getting hurt, and that might make the Cancer cry. Most Cancers don’t want to be seen as weak and will therefore develop a tough shell, like the crab, which is their symbol. Usually, the more difficult the relationship that the Cancer person had with their mother, the tougher the exterior shell is, and the more vulnerable they are on the inside.

One of the most difficult challenges for Cancer people is learning how to deal with their emotions by allowing them to exist and relating to others from and emotionally strong and open standpoint. During their lifetime the Cancer native will either learn to illuminate and share emotion with others, or be controlled by their attitudes towards emotion. If the receptive, feminine element is not valued it can lead to fanatical, lunatic and or abusive insensitive behavior.

Even though Cancer is the only sign ruled by the MOON, every individual has the MOON in their Natal Chart. The placement of the MOON in the Natal Chart of any individual will provide greater information about their emotional nature, and the relationship that they had with their mother. For more detailed information you may want to have a Natal Chart Interpretation.

Mercury: Planet of Communication

Mercury: Planet of CommunicationThis planet was the messenger of the gods in the Greek myths. MERCURY would be the one to send messages between the various gods of Mount Olympus, and also from the gods to man. He was a very androgynous male figure. Since he is also responsible for messages from god to man, as a force he could be considered equivalent to Angels, and divine intuitions. But he was also a trickster, and could show a more disruptive face. He is responsible for misunderstandings between people and the power, yet limitations of language to convey our thoughts to one another. He is responsible for words, having stolen the alphabet from the gods and brought it to man. The god MERCURY is rather amoral in his behavior, capable of lies and petty thievery, as well as love poems and messages of encouragement. He is capricious and takes flights of fancy. But there is rarely anything deeply malicious about his influence, just irksome and annoying at times. He is generally playful, and for all his fickleness, is sincerely distressed when someone is upset. At those times he can become a playful clown, cracking witty remarks. He might not really solve the problem, but he may show you a way to laugh at it. His realm of rulership includes all of the communication methods used by man, telephones, faxes, the mail, gossip columns, and even telepathy. MERCURY’S influence makes us aware of what we say to one another, how we phrase it and what they say back to us. The planet MERCURY lends cleverness and acuity to a personality. There is often something ironic about MERCURY, he being the planet/god responsible for puzzles, riddles and brainteasers. When MERCURY is making his influence felt, we become keenly aware of the various sides and aspects of an issue or idea.

MERCURY rules both Gemini and Virgo. In his Gemini incarnation the tendency to see the world as black and white is very pronounced. The Gemini generally sees all sides of an issue with that limber mind of theirs. This can give rise to categorizing people and information in static ways. The Gemini will then grab whatever piece of information serves their argument and use it to their favor. They can look at life as a chess game, where the smartest player will use the other persons words, thought and ideas to defeat them. The object of the game; prove your mental superiority. The Gemini who lives life by an overriding principle will use that sharp mind to expose flaws and faulty logic for a constructive purpose. The self-serving Gemini can use their brilliance to con and manipulate other people.

MERCURY also rules Virgo, since I consider CHIRON to be a modern ruler for Virgo, I recommend that you read that page also. In the Virgo personality mental flexibility is dedicated to storing information and checking details. The Virgo generally is interested in finding and storing data, so that they can prove any hypothesis that they should be asked to follow out. The Virgo wants every piece of information to be put in its proper place. Disarray makes them feel nervous. And a nervous Virgo is a critical Virgo. They can’t help it, they just notice every item or comment that’s casually thrown about, and want to find it a home. A big secret about Virgo is that they are very sensitive, and want to extend their own need for order and calm to include everyone else. Since a pea in the princess’s bed will keep her from sleeping she will see to that there are no peas in any beds throughout the land. Virgo makes sure that certain standards are met and upheld in life.

One other note about MERCURY is that 3 times a year it goes retrograde. This means that from the perspective of the Earth it appears to stop and then travel backwards along its orbit for a period of several weeks. During this time communication foul-ups increase, people from the past resurface and previous words and/or work often need to be clarified and revised. It is a confusing to begin MERCURY related activities, to buy electronics or to sign contracts. Learn more by watching the video below:

Every individual has MERCURY somewhere in their Natal Chart. Its influence will determine the way we communicate our thoughts, and the way we use our minds to grasp and use information. For more information about MERCURY’S influence on you I recommend having a Natal Chart Interpretation.

Mars: Planet of Passion

MARS is the Greek/Roman god of war. He is the archetypal masculine force. His area of rulership includes, the military, pioneering in any field, exploring, competition and revolutions. He is all fire and fury, ready for action, adventure and the next horizon to conquer. He is also considered the god of love, as his counterpoint VENUS (his secret lover) is also goddess of both love and war. MARS is constantly ready for action, either in battle, in order to prove himself, or between the sheets, in order to prove himself. He can be hotheaded, reckless and brash. He can also be ardent, persistent and filled with accomplishments. MARS however is rarely one to think before acting, so he can land himself into all sorts of trouble that a little foresight could have avoided. Oh, he does have enthusiasm, but often a complete lack of restraint. It’s not that this Greek god isn’t intelligent, it’s just that he doesn’t want to bother his head about complicated issues when there are dragons to slay. Someone just needs to make sure that he doesn’t trip over his own sword in his haste to use it.

MARS is said to rule Aries by day and Scorpio by night. This means that Aries individuals express the direct and uncomplicated competition and warrior aspects of MARS. Aries people are forthright, honest direct and blunt. They are also action oriented, restless, impatient and easily bored. Often the Aries is bored by their accomplishments almost before they have been achieved. Ho-hum, yawn another record-breaking sports score? Where’s the next event? Mountain? Paramour? The Aries is almost allergic to sitting still. But they do cover an amazing amount of territory in an astonishingly short period of time. Somebody please harness this persons energy, we could use it to light Manhattan.

In Scorpio, however we see the more covert aspects of MARS. Since PLUTO also rules Scorpio, I recommend all Scorpio’s read that page as well. In my astrological opinion PLUTO energy is a higher octave of MARS and so should really be the only ruler of Scorpio. But for argument’s sake, Scorpio’s like cloak and dagger intrigue, they are intense and driven and they have huge reservoirs of stamina. This is all MARS-like, but with the added twist of smoldering in a more repressed state under the surface of the personality. It’s as if the Scorpio has all that impulsive MARS energy, but rather than act on it, they prefer to will it into being. A Scorpio will take all the recklessness of MARS and refine it into a laser beam, which they will then use to bore into your soul when they stare deeply into your eyes. It’s hard to keep a secret from them.

MARS exerts an influence on every individual personality differently, for more information about how MARS influences you, and your relationships you might want to have a Natal Chart Interpretation.

Jupiter: Planet of Luck

Jupiter: Planet of LuckIn the Greek myths JUPITER was the father of the gods. He rules the heavens, which is equivalent to our conscious waking reality. His brother’s NEPTUNE and PLUTO rule the dream world and the underworld respectively. He was the one to grant wishes and requests, or hurl thunderbolts in disapproval. In mythology JUPITER took power by castrating his father URANUS, who was at that time the ruler of all the godly realms. URANUS had himself taken power by castrating his father. This is a good example of how the law of karma, or cause and effect works. In Astrology JUPITER represent blessings, gifts or things that come easily to us. However, at times the things that come easily to us are at someone else’s expense, just ask his father URANUS. The god JUPITER was also very lusty and seductive. He was constantly taking on disguises in order to seduce human women, he was very prolific in his conquests, leaving behind children all over the world. His good luck with women was clearly not a blessing to his wife, or his fatherless children. This was the source of many arguments and retaliations between he and his wife. They were usually at war over their philosophical differences. JUPITER governs all activities relating to the law, higher education, the mass media, long journeys, religion and philosophy. As the lawmaker on Mount Olympus, his job is to govern the activities of the group as a whole, so that the individuals may better function together. His influence is to seek the governing principal that holds various different people, even cultures together. For this reason issues of religious, cultural, ethnic and racial groupings or conflicts fall under his domain.

JUPITER is the largest planet in our solar system, making it easy to see that it represents expansion. In fact the planet is mostly gas. Gas tends to expand infinitely, when not held in check by some external force. The influence of JUPITER on the personality as seen in the Natal chart is similar. When not held in check JUPITER energy can lead to over-optimism, exaggeration, over-eating or numerous other excesses. Balanced JUPITER energy, however, lends buoyancy, light-heartedness and humor to the personality. Jupiter also bestows luck on his natives. Jupiter luck can seem to be random or strangely specific in it’s manifestation, but in truth every event is a reaction to some past action. For this reason JUPITER in the Natal Chart represents the good karma that we have accumulated.

Every person has JUPITER somewhere in their Birth Chart, however Sagittarius and Pisces are only signs governed by his influence. Sagittarius natives tend to have buoyant personalities, easily expecting things to go in their favor. Such optimism is often self-fulfilling. For this reason Sagittarius has a reputation for being humorous, fun and outgoing. However the archer can constantly be seeking new targets to shoot at, and their often-reckless attitude can lead to certain blindness to the wounds that their arrows may have left on other people. The Sagittarius is the blunt person who can say or do some of the most insensitive things, and then wonder what you’re so upset about. But in the next minute they’ll have you rolling on the floor with laughter, or hopping on the bandwagon of some world-beating scheme they’ve cooked up. They have a way of making even the most ridiculous things seem possible, even easy to accomplish. But sometimes they can lack common sense. They can often live a rosy world of their own making, oblivious to the mundane concerns of those around them.

Pisces is also governed by JUPITER in my Chakra Astrology, this is because Pisces people are very lucky at putting together group concerns and ideas, they often have a certain mesmerizing power and charisma that puts them in leadership positions, weather or not they’ve asked for them. Many of the most highly successful people I’ve ever met are Pisces: they just seem to have a lucky nack for finding the right opportunity at the right time and filling a need that the group has. This leads them to succeed – as long as they don’t slide into the many temptations that success brings their way. When they do that, we find them partying all night, losing their beautiful figures and generally wasting their talents.

All Sagittarians and Pisceans will have to deal with JUPITER’s influence on their lives. This includes issues of over-indulgence, the tendency to exaggerate, conflicts of philosophy with others and the resolution of the castration complex (even for women). For more specific information about how JUPITER influences your personality you may be interested in having a Natal Birth Chart Interpretation.

Who is Chiron?

Deep-thinking Chiron is the civilized Centaur who trained several famous disciples, being known for his wisdom and justice. Chiron, who was not a drunkard like other CENTAURS, never used his weapons against a man. Instead he spent his Old Age learning about herbs, and teaching to play the lyre to his pupils.

Born a Centaur

Chiron was born in very ancient times, for some have said that he was conceived at the time when Zeus was hiding in Crete, and his father Cronos, anxious to devour the little god, was looking for him throughout the earth. And Chiron, they say, was born a Centaur because Cronos begot him in a horse’s shape.

No medicine without him

Without Chiron, they say, there would not be art of healing. For Asclepius, despite the fact that he was the son of Apollo, the god of healing, learned medicine from the Centaur Chiron. And as it has been pointed out, the art that Asclepius’ sons Machaon and Podalirius performed at the time of the Trojan War, as when Machaon cured Menelaus, was the same art that Chiron had taught to his disciple Asclepius.
Wide education

But Chiron taught the art of healing to his other disciples too, for that is what the wounded Eurypylus 1 says to Patroclus 1 when they were fighting at Troy:”I want you to cut out this arrow from my thigh, wash off the blood with warm water and spread soothing ointment on the wound. They say you have some excellent prescriptions that you learnt from Achilles, who was taught by Chiron …” [Eurypylus 1 to Patroclus 1. Homer, The Iliad 11.829]

Restores sight to blind

Phoenix 2, who later accompanied Achilles to the Trojan War, was blinded by his father King Amyntor 1 of Ormenium, son of Ormenus 3, son of Cercaphus 2, son of Aeolus 1, son of Hellen 1 the eponym of the Hellenes, son of Deucalion 1 the man who survived the Flood. Amyntor 1, doing exactly as Phineus 2, blinded his son on the strength of a false accusation of seduction made against him by Phthia 3, concubine of Amyntor 1. But Peleus brought Phoenix 2 to Chiron, and the Centaur restored his sight.

Lives with wife and mother

Although it has been told that Philyra 1 was turned into a tree when she discovered that she had given birth to a monster, others say that Chiron lived in a cave in Mount Pelion, which is in Magnesia (Thessaly), with both his wife and his mother, and that is what Jason, who was one of the disciples of this Centaur, says:”… I shall give proof of Chiron’s training; for I come from his cave, from the presence of Chariclo and Philyra, where the holy daughters of the Centaur raised me.” [Jason to Pelias 1. Pindar, Pythian 4.112]

Chiron and Cyrene

Chiron is regarded as a civilized Centaur, sometimes wiser than the gods, and certainly wiser than men, whom he surpasses in justice. As it is told, not even Apollo knew, or seemed to know, who Cyrene was when he found her near Mount Pelion without spears wrestling alone with a lion. But the god asked the Centaur to leave his cave, and tell him all about her. And Chiron showed amazement at the god’s question:”Do you ask of the maiden’s birth? You who know the end supreme of all things, and all the ways that lead thereto, the number of the leaves that the earth puts forth in spring, the number of the sands that, in the sea and the rivers, are driven before the waves …” [Chiron to Apollo. Pindar, Pythian 9.45]
However, Apollo was not ignorant, says Chiron, but instead reluctant to show his love openly:”Secret, O Apollo! are the keys of wise Persuasion, that unlock the shrine of love; and both gods and men blush to take the pleasure of a bed for the first time openly. For even in your case, for whom it is unlawful to touch on falsehood, a gentle impulse has swayed you to dissemble your words.” [Chiron to Apollo Pindar, Pythian 9.39]
After this, Apollo carried Cyrene off to that part of the land of Libya where in later times he founded a city and named it, after her, Cyrene. And this was decided that very day when Apollo saw the girl, for as it is said:”Swift is the achievement, short are the ways of gods, when bent on speed.” [Pindar, Pythian 9.68]
Cyrene, who was daughter of King Hypseus 1 of the LAPITHS, gave birth to Aristaeus, who himself became a disciple of Chiron, and the discoverer of honey and the olive.

Mortally wounded…

Chiron was mortally wounded in the following way:
Heracles 1, in his wanderings, came to the cave of the Centaur Pholus 1, who received him and set roast meat before him. Heracles 1, then, asked for wine, but Pholus 1 said that he feared to open the jar since it belonged to all CENTAURS in common. After some discussion on this matter, the jar was opened and the CENTAURS, scenting the smell, arrived armed at the cave of Pholus 1. A battle ensued, and Heracles 1 shot and repelled many of them, who took refuge with Chiron. At that point, Heracles 1 shot an arrow at Elatus 3, which passed through his arm, sticking in Chiron’s knee. Distressed at this, Heracles 1 applied a medicine which the Centaur gave him. But the wound was incurable, because the arrows of Heracles 1 had been dipped in the gall of the Hydra, and were therefore utterly poisonous.

…in one way or another

However, others have said that it was when Heracles 1 once visited Chiron and they were examining his arrows, that one of them fell on the Centaur’s foot, bringing about his death. And still others have said that Chiron himself tried to draw the bow, and the arrow, slipping from his hand, fell on his foot, wounding him.

His fate foretold by his daughter

In any case Chiron, who was in pain, wished to die, but, being immortal, he could not. So when Heracles 1, after some time, released Prometheus 1, he presented Chiron to Zeus, who consented to die in Prometheus 1′s stead. This had been prophesied by Chiron’s daughter, the seeress Ocyrrhoe 2:”You also, dear father, who are now immortal and destined by the law of birth to last through all the ages, shall some day long for power to die, when you will be in agony with all your limbs burning with the fatal Hydra’s blood. But at last, from immortal the gods shall make you capable of death, and the three goddesses shall loose your thread.” [Ocyrrhoe 2 to Chiron. Ovid, Metamorphoses 2.649]
Among the stars

This genial Centaur, who renounced immortality, reared famous disciples, and surpassed men in justice, conscientiousness and diligence, was put among the stars, and is known today as the constellation Centaur (Centaurus).

Chiron

In the mythology of Greece and Rome there was a race of beings called Centaurs, who were half man and half horse. This is the current symbol for the sign Sagittarius. According to the ancient legends CHIRON was the immortal version of the Centaur. He was a very wise and kind being who lived in one of the caves in a high mountain in Greece. It was in this cave that he taught valuable skills to his chosen pupils whom he mentored. Among these students were Hercules, who he taught the art of battle to, Caduceus, to whom he taught medicine, and others to whom he taught Astronomy, Astrology, Poetry, Music, Art, Farming and Healing. In Greek mythology the Centaurs were a rowdy and unruly group. They would drink excessively and engage in tests of manhood and strength which would often get out of hand, so they were famous for brawling, raping and pillaging any unfortunate who got in the way. One day they went too far and upset the gods on Mt. Olympus, who called on CHIRON to do something to stop their bad behavior. CHIRON decided to throw a huge banquet with the intention of reasoning with them and convincing them to behave in a civilized manner. But this was useless, the Centaurs immediately got drunk at the banquet and a fight broke out between the hosts and their guests. Hercules succeeded in overthrowing them, since his skill in battle was so great. But during the fight CHIRON was accidentally wounded in the leg by one of Hercules’ poisoned arrows. CHIRON was an immortal so he could not die from the wound, but the poison was too effective for him to be able to heal from it either. Since he was in constant agony, and deeply mortified by his failure he went to the Gods and asked them to allow him to die. They refused, but they took pity on his torment and decided to change his physical form to that of a constellation of stars and thus placed him in the heavens where he would no longer be in pain.

Therefore in Astrology CHIRON rules all relationships of a Mentor/Student nature, as well as any ancient knowledge made new. He is the figure from ancient myth that is responsible for unlocking hidden knowledge and talents in his chosen pupils. He is said to be the planet of the ‘wounded healer,’ representing people who have gifts to help and heal others, physically, emotionally or spiritually because they themselves have had to undergo an intense healing and purification process.

In my Astrology practice I view CHIRON as the modern ruler for Virgo. The old ruler ship of Virgo by MERCURY still has validity, but I see CHIRON as relating to Virgo because of its connection to healing. In the Virgo personality CHIRON makes his influence felt in the Virgo need to be of service, and also in their attention to health related issues. The Virgo who has managed to surmount their natural nervousness and gleaned a direction from the huge amounts of information that CHIRON has presented them with will be a strong force in their natural realm; healing. This healing can take the form of mental, physical, emotional or spiritual work, but essentially it will be about bringing wholeness to the individual. The Astrological symbol for Virgo is the Virgin, and this is entirely appropriate to CHIRON as its ruler. In Astrological terms Virginity can be equated to individual wholeness and self-sufficiency, rather than sexuality.

As the ruler of Virgo CHIRON represents all the holistic health practices including Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Hypnosis, Massage Therapy, Herbology, and Astrology among others. CHIRON is especially responsible for bringing these practices into popular use since its discovery in 1977.

All though I attribute a special relationship between CHIRON and Virgo, CHIRON will make it’s presence felt in each individual’s personality differently. In the Natal Chart CHIRON would represent the area in the individual where a deep psychic pain existed and where they could achieve a level of knowledge, healing and wholeness that could be of universal use to others. For more information about CHIRON in your life you may want to have a Natal Chart Interpretation

What are the Asteroids?

The use of the four Asteroids, PALLAS ATHENA, VESTA, CERES and JUNO is relatively new to Astrology. They are four female goddesses from Greco-Roman mythology and as a group they represent issues related to women and relationships. In Astrology the area of relationships and partnerships is attributed to Libra, which is why I assign them modern rulership of this sign. The old rulership of VENUS over Libra still has its application but the Asteroids lend more insight into the dynamics of human relationships.     JUNO is the goddess of commitment. She indicates what we perceive as balancing us in a relationship and whom we feel compatible with. She is the mirror quality of a relationship whereby we learn more about ourselves. In mythology she fell in love with Narcissus, who was only in love with his own image. This myth gives us the term ‘Narcissism’ and illustrates the way that JUNO teaches us to learn from our partnerships. JUNO tends to value commitment above all else and can lose herself in another person. Ultimately she teaches us to learn to value ourselves and form partnerships based on an equality of power and the giving of love.

CERES is the Goddess of the grain, she is the great mother and could even be equated to GAIA-the Earth herself. CERES represents that which nurtures, feeds, sustains and mothers us. In mythology she lost her daughter for 6 months a year to PLUTO’s seduction and retaliated by creating the barren seasons of fall and winter. Therefore she is also indicative of that which we mourn and also what we withhold from others, or feel is being withheld from us.

VESTA is the Goddess of the hearth and represents the ability to ‘keep the home fires burning.’ In ancient Greece she had a temple of worship, as did all of the major Gods and Goddesses. The temple of VESTA was attended by Vestal Virgins who essentially provided the light at the end of the tunnel for soldiers away at battle or on long journeys. She represents the ability to hold onto a dream, focus ones attention on a long-term goal and to ‘carry a torch.’ The Olympic torchbearer is a modern vestige of her domain, as is the sentiment represented by the Statue of Liberty.

PALLAS (also called Athena in Greek myth) is the Goddess of wisdom. She is indicative of our intuitive awareness, flashes of insight and original/genius solutions to problems. She is able to perceive the big picture and is therefore good at providing long-term vision and clarity. In the Greek myths she was consulted often by the Gods for information regarding the best way to attack a problem. She is clever and good at strategy.

According to Astrology four of the Signs are of a dual nature, they are Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius and Pisces. Libra however is actually of a quad nature, which is why I believe the Asteroids are appropriate, as it’s ruler. Gemini is the Twins and characteristically is a person who can have many different sides or personalities. Sagittarius is the Archer and its duality lies in the personality (Archer) being rooted to one spot while the mind (the Archers arrow) is constantly seeking a broader view and new targets. Pisces is the Fishes, swimming in opposite directions, one towards the heights of spirituality and idealism and the other towards escapism, debauchery and laziness. Libra is the Scales, the four sides of its nature represented by each of the two scales and the two things that are placed within them. The job that Libra performs is to rectify an inner and an outer reality (the two scales) against a standard (one of the objects) and a new piece of information (the other object). There are constant adjustments being made during this process, as is the case in all relationships. Also in this analogy the two scales can be seen as representing the two individuals in the relationship, the two objects being the content of each of the individuals experiences, beliefs and views in life. The standard would always be the person looking at the relationship from the I standpoint and the new piece of information would be provided by the you person.

The way this translates into Astrology is that the I person is indicated by JUNO (what we look to as a mirror of ourselves) and the you person is indicated by CERES (what nurtures us, and what can be withheld from us). The standard (the I persons beliefs and life experience) is represented by VESTA (long-range goals and dreams). And the new information is represented by PALLAS (flashes of insight, a broader perspective, wisdom). The way this plays out is that if I get into a relationship with you, it is because I see you as a mirror for parts of myself that I want to learn more about. I will then see you as holding certain things that I believe I need and that you can either give to me or withhold from me. I will then judge this according to my standard of goals and dreams. The way in which you relate and respond to me would provide me with the new piece of information which, if I pay attention to it can give me a flash of insight, a broader perspective and maybe even more wisdom. In this way we learn from all of our relationships, weather they are sexual, platonic, work related, long term or short term, sometimes this is pleasant and sometimes this is not. So, the Asteroids and their connection to one another can bring a lot of insight into the dynamics of personal relationships and individual growth.

The way this relates to the Libra person is that they are sitting there trying to figure all the various dynamics out, and then put them in harmony, hoping to preserve balance above all else. The Libra feels all these different forces acutely and hates it when they are pulling in different directions. So generally the Libra’s head is filled with a pile of various concerns, mostly regarding being fair and balancing their needs against those of other people. This is why they take such a long time to make decisions and it’s also why they are so good at arguing from many different viewpoints.

The ASTEROIDS relate strongly to relationship issues, so if you are interested in learning more about them and how they influence you personally you may want to have a Relationship Reading.

Hilarious take on Saturn in Virgo

Of course Saturn in Virgo is about health,
of course it is about being perfect,
of course it coincides with a recently published health study in the UK

Does it surprise anyone to learn that the UK is a Virgo?
I expect we’ll hear a lot from them this year.
They’ll nag us,
They’ll pick us apart.
They’ll be like our critical mother who picks up the socks we left lying around while pressing the back of her hand to her forehead and shooting nasty glares in our general direction.

We’ll see lot’s of news stories about skinny anorexic models starving to death (on purpose!)
We’ll all feel fat by comparison,
We’ll hate the pictures, hate the women, feel sorry for them and generally be upset about it.

But the best part is this Hilarious take on it all I found on the web.
