The Egg and Autumn Equinox – Complete with an Eclipse

This year the Autumn Equinox (Sept 22 Pacific/Sept 23 Eastern) follows the New Moon Solar Eclipse at 29′ Virgo. And to make matters more confusing the Eclipse takes place right on the USA’s Neptune. Has anyone noticed that September has been a bumpy month so far? Well there are more bumps to come surrounding this second Eclipse.

The first thing about the Equinox – and arguably the most fun – is the folklore that an egg can be balanced on it’s end only during an Equinox. There are only two Equinoxes per year, in Spring and in Fall. It is named the Equinox because these are the two days of the year when daylight and nightime are exactly equal. In Summer daytime is longer than night, and in Winter nighttime is longer than day. The Equinox’s signal the day when the transition from one season transitions into the next.

I know that I personally have been able to balance an egg on end during an Equinox – I even balanced it on it’s small pointy end that day. Actually I balanced every egg in my cousins refrigerator on end, and then every egg in my own refrigerator. I even left one on the counter overnight to see if it would stay there. But the next morning it had tumbled to the floor and broken. I have been trying for about a month to balance an egg with no luck. I will be taping this, and then I’m going to tape what happens on the actual Equinox just to see what happens. I invite anyone else who’s interested to try their own egg experiment. I’d love to hear the results. I have no preconcieved decisions about what will and won’t work, and am very interested to see and hear the what results people achieve. Just a little scientific test to see what really works. Are you up to it? If so, please leave your notes and comments on the form below.     [...] Welcome Autumn! The world is changing in the Northern Hemisphere, I know you in the south are experiencing your own change of seasons, though different than ours. It is a time for change, transformation, loss and movement into a time of rest. We may have harvest now in many ways but in the past it was the final reap, the gathering before the cold. I’ve been bobbing around a subject, which turns out to be seasonal (at least for me) that in turn is a wheel that has been spinning in that fantastic mind of Spirit Heler (see from Spririt Healer’s Mailbox below). To me, this time before Sowhain (Samhain, Halloween), the time when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest, it is a spiritual and energetic harvesting that is taking place. It is our time to gather together our power, pull to our centers and be well with ourselves before the natural energies direct us through this time of conservancy…And yes, gift giving and gratitude. What occurred to me this time around was the thought “reclaim your power”. As we approach the thinning time, Halloween, I believe it is important to take these moments to celebrate the gifts we have received. These gifts may be messages, love and relationships, lessons or something else. The important thing is “taking stock” and “drawing in that which is you” if only for this time. Why?The Wheel of the Year turns, years come and go and our lives carry on the karma or dharma that we have or make and in each turning of the year we have our time to gather before the new year begins. As a Pagan, originally, I discovered that December 31st may be a cultural New Year but the real spiritual turning happens at Halloween. An ending and a beginning. A time of “no time” when we speak to spirits, touch the other side, come back and move forward. It is time for our cleansing, our drawing in of the power that is ours so that we are renewed in our meeting with the other side, in our joining together in the winter times with family, friends and loved ones. These “holidays” that are coming towards us are often draining, not to mention expensive and populated with many people and events. This is your time, now, to bring all of you back together into one place, re-group, be well and come into the new year. So as this years “harvest” comes to close I am calling to you to bring yourself together. We’ve all got allot on our plate. Not only do we have heated and long-drawn-out wars, but we have our plethora of other draws to our bodies, minds and spirits. Replenish is my word for now. I invite you to do just that, rejuvenate yourself before we move into the midnight of the years time piece. Spirit Healer (mentioned earlier) had some great questions right in her mailbox that pertain directly to our subject, coming holidays and the essentials of spiritual living: Energizing, Cleansing and “Bringing in that prosperity” that we all so desire.In addition I found some great blogs and sites that have highlighted our natural passage in time. Gathered together I hope that this presents to you a well rounded peek into the earth movement, in nature, in ourselves, at this time. Enjoy and blessing to you this Autumn.
