How to get what you want – and what you paid for – from a Psychic, Intuitive or Astrologer and avoid the common pitfalls.
In recent months Yahoo! has reported all-time highs in psychic, intuitive and Astrology readings according to sites like Keen! and Yahoo! Advice. But the dark side of the story is that the actual satisfaction ratings for these readings has plummeted. The problem seems to come from people not knowing how to get what they really need out of a reading and/or falling into shallow and meaningless sessions that don’t really help them.
After many, many, years of doing psychic, intuitive and Astrology readings myself, I have come to a few conclusions to help you as a client to find what you are looking for and get the most for your money in a Psychic counseling session. Here are the top pitfalls to be aware of:
#1) TALENT IS RARE – the best way to get to know a reader is to read their blog or newsletter for a while, this will allow you to make an informed choice.
First of all, please understand that a really talented psychic, intuitive or Astrological counselor is VERY RARE. These people are difficult to find. I have known and worked with literally 100’s of people who call themselves psychic or intuitive readers and out of all of these there is exactly ONE person who I would trust to give ME insight. ONE. That’s all. And I know a lot of people who are ‘famous’ – but I wouldn’t have a session with most of them.
#2) EGO IS COMMON – seek out those who truly want to be of service.
There are a few main problems with the world of Psychics. Most people who call themselves psychic are on an ego trip – which is the opposite of spiritual, and you should always run away from these people. This is often true for those who have either achieved a big name or have a center named after them. A couple of these people are hard-core materialists and social climbers.
I won’t mention names, but one Guy (with a center named after him) has legendary stories about him and his publishing empire that was financed by his wife, whom he constantly cheats on. He also won’t even give the time of day to anyone who isn’t hugely famous or rich themselves. And yet, his name is almost always on the lips of those who think they are following a spiritual path. Most spiritual seekers have one of his books on their bookshelf. How can I tell them that they are being misled? Well, that’s one of the reasons that I am writing this today.
Most people who call themselves ‘psychic’ or ‘Guru’ do so in order to serve their own ego. The real purpose of a readers’s job is to be of service to the client’s highest purpose and spiritual truth. The job is NOT about the reader!
#3) SHALLOW VS DEEP INFORMATION – empathy and counseling skills are HUGELY important.
Another problem is that there is a HUGE difference between ’seeing’ into someone’s future vs. being able to actually counsel and assist them to make the most of their personal life path, higher purpose and God-given talents.
The contradiction is this; usually the psychic who can tell you what you just had for lunch will impress you enough to think that they must be really good – but this is NOT true. If someone can tell you what you had for lunch, then they probably can’t tell you anything about the meaning of your life, your relationship, your family, job, career, income etc.
On the other hand, a psychic reading with a truly gifted reader will NOT talk about your lunch, your car, or anything equally meaningless! A gifted psychic will not be bothered wasting time on details that mean nothing and do nothing to help your spiritual path or development. It’s a matter of attention – shallow attention = shallow reading. The reason the psychic talked about your lunch in the first place was to impress you and get your business. This is a person who does not care about (or have access) to information that is truly helpful on the soul level.
WARNING SIGNS TO ALWAYS AVOID
A) Here’s a good rule of thumb that most people don’t know: AVOID readers who have a street sign or storefront. These people are all connected to each other and are basically a mafia family. Many are related and have vendettas against each other. They usually can trace their ancestry back through the Gypsies (which isn’t always bad – but in this organized capacity it is very similar to the Italian Mafia). Also, they will NOT tell you if you ask them about this.
B) COSTUMES!!! This is my #1 pet peeve! People really go for readers and psychic’s who wear costumes, it’s as if donning a turban or forcing a fake indian accent, or wearing lots of giant rings and necklaces makes someone a spiritual master. NOT! This is just Hollywood marketing. It is not real. Someone who has to wear a circus costume to convince you they are for real is only putting on a show. So if it’s a three ring circus you want to pay for, then by all means give them your money – but don’t expect anything beyond cheap theatrics.
C) I may offend you with this one, but PSYCHIC HOTLINES are the WORST! Both the psychics and the clients on these services are truly terrible. Of course, when you search long and hard you may be able to find the diamond in the rough, but the hotlines are bad for several reasons:
Psychic hotlines are bad because they literally force the type of shallow reading that I mentioned in #3 above. They do not provide enough time to get into anything real. It is usually about 3 minutes of mistrust and proving that the psychic undergoes for the client to decide they want to stay on the phone with them. Often the service (like Keen) has given away a lot of free minutes for just this purpose. So the client is just rolling the dice – taking a crapshoot and hoping to find a good psychic reader. But since the client rarely knows how to select a good reader, they fall for the marketing instead.
Having briefly tried my hand at this type of service I know firsthand that the clients who actually use the service are facing the worst kind of domestic problems – being beaten, eviction, financial crisis, family members going to jail and on and on. These people usually need real counseling for hours at a time. A few minutes here or there will rarely be any help to them. It is heartbreaking really, because it’s almost impossible to truly help them under the hotline conditions. Also, these are the people least able to pay the per-minute charges in the first place. On the psychic hotline, the only winner is the psychic hotline itself – not the client and not the reader.
Another downside of the hotline is this: you go on as a client thinking you will get your questions answered in a 10 or 20 minute session at $3 per minute, and that seems reasonable. But that’s almost never what happens. The readers who make it to the top of the hotline listings (the one you will see most visibly) are ALWAYS the one’s who are good at keeping people on the line for an hour or more (usually $180 or more for the hour). And now, suddenly your cheap reading isn’t so cheap, and you’ve been led in circles and probably didn’t ever get any real deep insight because the psychic reader was busy keeping you on the hook for the per-minute charges. They were really good at talking about what you had for lunch!
The whole Psychic Hotline system is set up so that it completely defeats anyone who is seeking real depth of meaning, true psychic information or astrological counseling. This is why I say, just avoid them altogether, pay for a full psychic session with someone really good and then use the time effectively!
Remember – ALWAYS trust your intuition when going to a reader or psychic. Here’s a quick exercise to help you do just that:
When deciding to choose a psychic, intuitive or astrologer look at their picture, name or listing. Place your hand over your Solar Plexus while you ask yourself if they will be able to give you the guidance and assistance that you need. Close your eyes. If the answer is yes, you should get a warm feeling of affirmation. If no, you will feel nothing or it will feel cold or unpleasant. Go with the person who gives you the STRONGEST feeling of affirmation.

And Yes, of course I offer private readings to a select clientelle. I do not read just anybody, it must be the correct match for both you the client and me the reader. To learn more about my services please go here:
Beliefnet published an interesting article on Judaism and God, here’s an excerpt:
“The verses immediately above warn against divination, seeking guidance from astrology, reading omens, and so on. Rather than trying to outsmart Him, accept your cup from God.
This isn’t to say that Judaism entirely disdains such magic arts as false and empty. Some authorities do, some not. Rather the warning is against seeking out insight from them”
The actual translation for the word ‘astrologer’ also means Chaldean.
Just look in the footnotes of your Bible.
Chaldeans were a sect of people who practiced witchcraft as well as a host of unsavory sacrifices and other types of worship. I don’t know of any Astrologers who do any of those things!
Not all things that are called Astrology are the same and they are definitely not all equal. Most “Astrology” is very shallow and not helpful to people. A deeper form of Astrology (that I use called 4D Astrology) is far closer to counseling and therapy. It really helps people to change the places where they may be stuck in their lives.
My experience with most religion is that it is all about controlling people’s lives and giving all power to the authority (pope, priest, rabbi). But all truth, meaning and ultimate credit should always go only to God – not to man. Giving credit to man is the same as building the tower of Babel.
The trouble with translating the Bible is that many of these ancient words (like the Aramaic word for Astrologer) have several meanings. The word for teeth might actually also mean vapor or something equally unrelated in most cases. This is why the Catholic Vatican will ONLY let people in to look at their ancient texts who have already agreed to THEIR version of the interpretations of those words. Ultimately the public is duped, and unless you are a scholar of Aramaic who has also seen and translated those ancient scrolls firsthand, (and I just explained why nobody has) you simply do not have the authority to interpret the word! Actually, if you read the Bible, it says in it’s own pages that NOBODY can interpret the scroll (Bible) – except the ONE person it describes. Just look up Revelation 5; 1-5 (Sorry to Jew’s I’ve read the whole book, not just the first half.)
If you’d actually like to learn something for yourself, rather than blindly accepting what is told to you by someone calling themselves a holy person (and interpreting the ‘word’ in the way that THEY have been told to) then I have some free info on how Astrology really works. I have researched it, and to my own satisfaction I am quite SURE that it is not against the will of God.
** I have officially re-formatted my newsletter, here’s why:
1)A Better Direction: Sun Sign Horoscopes will only lead you in the wrong direction and in good conscience I cannot add to all the confusion that the word is already over-filled with.
2)Principles of truth CAN and will be useful to anyone on a regular basis. My new format reflects the 7 TIMELESS PRINCIPLES OF TRUTH and how you can use them to benefit your life. And yes, each weekly message is based on what the Stars are doing.
3)Spiritual questions to address – there is a difference between Babylonian Astrology (Sun Sign Astrology) and sacred timing. This is also the difference between Man’s ideas and God’s truths. My work is designed to reflect God’s divine timing and nothing
else.
4)Practical and Useful – In order for me to use what wisdom God has given me effectively, I MUST make it useful and actionable for YOU the reader. Otherwise I feel as though I have let you down. I am sure that you will find this format is far better for you in the long run!
5) Attention! Science has studied the mind and come up with this: the human mind can only pay attention to somewhere between 5-7 chunks of information at a given time. How can anyone get the whole picture that 12 Sun Signs are supposed to represent?Zoinks! It’s not possible!
I hope you like it, we took a long time to come up with something that will really work for you.
Here is the new format:
7 PRINCIPLES
NO SUN SIGNS ANYWHERE
EACH PRINCIPLE APPLIES TO EVERYONE
ONE thing may speak to you more than others in a given week – that’s OK.
PLEASE READ ALL 7 MESSAGES. They ALL apply. If something doesn’t make sense to you, then come back and read it again next week – it is probably that area of your life that you are not paying attention to!! This means that it is also the area that always sabotages you!
If one of these principles consistently gives you trouble – consider this evidence of how to make your life better! All you have to do is pay attention to it now!!
The 7 Principles:
Your Conscious Work/Self:
Right now consciousness is mostly divided between feeling overwhelmed and cynical vs. feelings of hope and optimism. It becomes extra challenging to stay optimistic, but this is the exact attitude that brings the most happiness. Do not fall into temptation by becoming negative, fearful or short-tempered. When things seem dark or troubling around you, try to remember that there IS a perfect order to things, but only God knows what that is. Instead of feeling negative, release it and focus on being joyful and filled with gratitude for what IS good NOW.
Your Thinking Mind:
Old stale ideas and fears are finally ready to be cleared away once and for all. You now have the clarity and focus necessary to see your inner demons in the light of day and know them for what they truly are – weak, pathetic attempts to keep you down. Laugh at them, and realize that your work now lies in slaying those dragons to the ground.
Unconscious Programming (your future):
A bump in the road. A distraction. Physical obstacles to overcome. There may be something that you haven’t been paying attention to that now demands your attention. Look how enormous the weeds can get if you forgot to weed the garden all winter. Time to clear the obstacles.
Action & Sex: Be willing to buckle down and do the stuff you don’t want to do and all the struggle will pass you by. You will end by gaining a feeling of accomplishment and a sense of solid foundation. Once this is done, you will be able to celebrate and enjoy.
Values, Money and Desires:
Get rich quick – usually means the opposite. Most of us are starting to catch on to this trickery and resist. The problem is the love of money for it’s own sake (the root of all evil). Money is useful, but can be used to manipulate (IE: the criminal Mortgage scam). Avoid those who sell greed and stick with your inner values and higher purpose – this brings success.
There is a huge desire for new beginnings in air. Please balance this with a healthy dose of patience and perseverance; people are short tempered and demanding. Good news, romantic fantasies are in high gear.
Community:
A high level of concentration, combined with the ability to network successfully will bring results this week. Pay close attention to messages, details and little, itty-bitty pieces of data. It is the tiny details that can make or break your standing in the community right now.
The Rules:
Whew! The worst of this wave of bad news has passed, for now at least. (Despite what the NEWS keeps saying). Now we find ourselves simply arranging the fallout. Believe it or not, there will be opportunities to take action and make progress before the week is out – just as long as you can make
a clear decision in such a confusing situation
To Your Joy and Prosperity

P.S. You can put these principles to work FOR you automatically through the subconscious mind:
Astrology is a way that humans have used to understand the world around since the beginning of time. I found this informative article on Astrology and world events that sheds some light on the subject. It is also useful to bear in mind that ALL forms of personality typing and even the roots of psychology owe their inheritance to the wisdom of Astrology. Ever since man first stared up at the sky he’s been looking for clues to his life and personality from the stars.
Today, most people are interested in Astrology to help them find ‘The One’ and this article helps to describe ONE woman’s experience with 2 dimensional Astrology to achieve this. If you subscribe to my newsletter you will learn that there are actually 4 dimensions – 3 of which are never used by the things calling themselves Astrology in the world.
Ultimately Astrology is a Tool – not something to be worshiped. Just like selecting the right saw helps the carpenter create a beautiful table, the correct understanding of a situation allows us to make good decisions for ourselves. The mistake that many people make with Astrology is to give it too much power and place too much emphasis on the signs or the houses. Astrology does not have the power to determine our choices – only we do. Think of good Astrology as a good set of research to give you the most information possible so that you can make successful decisions. This is what Astrology is best used for, and this is how I treat my Astrology Readings with clients.
Here’s one for the record books: there is now a product available that helps you to get the best workout based on your SIGN. Astrology has been used for a lot of things, but this one is new to me.
We can easily use Astrology to pick a good date to start an exercise program, which is called Electional Astrology and is one of the areas that I specialize in (To set up a private session, call my office at (310) 455-2210). But an Astrological workout is completely new.
The DVD is scheduled to be released at Amazon.com and Astrology.com for $24.95 later this month.
On a related note, medical astrology has been around for centuries. There was a time when medical treatment wouldn’t have been considered complete without consulting the stars. Today, there is ample evidence of the Full Moon causing both excessive blood flow and filled ER rooms, and yet today Astrology is still ignored by Western medicine.
At the very least, the Hospital could be prepared for heavy Emergency Room demand by having plenty of staff on schedule during the Full Moon phase. And if YOU are electing to have surgery – avoid the Full Moon for it, since it adds to swelling, bruising and bleeding. Especially in water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).
More specifics require personalized attention though, which you can get by calling my office to schedule a Astrology appointment (310) 455-2210.
It’s pretty common knowledge that the Reagan Administration used Astrologers and consulted them regularly, so when Obama made Nancy Reagan look like a whack job by saying she had ’seances’ it was pretty out of line, which is why he apologized later.
This story on Obama’s Astrology gaffe gives the overview. When reached for comment, AstrologyChick had this to say, “Hey, FIRST OFF Astrology is NOT a seance and never has been! The two are from completely different planets and SECOND: author Alex Carnevale should have been on my Astrology Newsletter list where an Obama prediction was made loud and clear.”
A related story on the AP Wire discussed how Hilary Clinton was consulting a spiritual advisor and the press suddenly got all fast and loose with the term ’seance’. We asked a local surfer to comment on the subject, “Dude, Seance, is like a totally different thing. Really, like, go and check your dictionary and stuff. Aren’t you like, press, guys supposed to be like, all smart and know big words and what they mean and sh*t?”
A lot of mysticism was tossed around in the media and in connection to the White House today. Did they know that the Moon was in mystic Pisces, or were they just mindless Astro-zombies playing out the will of the Astrological planets on a purely unconscious level?
Two scenario’s are possible here a) the press could have a secret plan to take over the world by using Astrology to time the release of their stories, or b) they do NOT use the stars, claim the stars have no impact, and then do exactly what the stars SHOULD compel them to do. Either way, the date for these stories is right in line with the Astrology of the Pisces Moon. Is it just an accident? You decide.
This week – and today – election day, we have a heated set of planetary aspects. But, surprise, emotions are high on the campaign trail and Americans are looking for a fight, no matter what side of the ‘fence’ they are on. This has caused people to even attack ME for making Astrological predictions. sheesh!
Here on this blog, I have gotten slammed on a number of occasions simply for stating my Astrological perspective and making Astrological predictions. Ok, sure I have an opinion too. I’m human. Just for the sake of transparency here is where I am coming from:
1) My number 1 concern and care is for the environment and the planet. And I don’t just talk about it, I run a biodeisel car. I despise the oil companies and what is happening to our world because of pollution and greed. I put my money where my mouth is. I cannot in good conscience give my money to these oil criminals. Precious few people are really doing what matters and taking themselves off of the system that doesn’t work. For me, I believe this is the ONLY thing we CAN do. I don’t think politicians can save us.
2) I run a business, a company and I care deeply about how policy effects my ability to pay people! I am an extremely practical person. I only care about what WORKS. I knew 7 years ago that the mortgage system was being built to fail, and I said so in my columns (Oh yeah, people attacked me then too).
3) I grew up as the child of hippies, Aura is my real name for pete’s sake. So I know first hand what all the weaknesses of delusional, fairy tail, escapist thinking can be. I actually see the rational side to EVERY argument. And I don’t like politicians. None of them. I think our problems are bigger than this. I advocate individual change and responsibility.
4) I believe the best political activism is the activism that creates individual action and personal change and responsibility: plant a garden, get on bio-fuels, invest in wholistic self-sustaining systems (stay away from get rich quick schemes!), take care of your own health by eating healthy and doing regular intestinal cleanses, and exercise, work together with other people, be part of community, live with good values and treat people as you’d like to be treated.
Pretty simple really. Pretty common sense, but for some reason people who read my Astrology predictions think that I am a politico. I am not. I hate politicians (yes, all of them), I just state what I see. I often see things I don’t like, but I am prescient in a way that people need to hear, so I share it. I have even been accused of creating the things I see. Please people! I am merely a messenger. All I want to do is laugh at how crazy this 3 ring circus has become:
Yeah. laughter really IS the best medicine. And here’s my most poignant Astrology prediction yet: We will all need our sense of humor to get through the things that are coming up, because the whole thing is completely INSANE. It doesn’t matter what side of the political warfare you find yourself on, a little kindness, a lot of humanity and deep servings of humor are going to be indispensables. That’s my Astrological story, and I’m sticking to it.
The most troubling thing about election day is that the transiting Saturn – Uranus Opposition (exact on Nov 4th) is also squaring transiting Venus. Venus will have completed her Transiting T-square to Saturn and Uranus, coming into exact square with both planets on Nov 3rd. This is an unsettling T-square all on it’s own because it is both financially unstable and rife with philosophical/negotiation breakdowns. So much for both political parties getting along.
But this isn’t all, Transiting Venus will be in EXACT opp to the US Mars on Nov 5th and square the US Neptune on Nov 6th. BOTH Saturn and Uranus are applying to make hard aspects (repeatedly) to the US Neptune in the next 6 mos.
THIS MEANS THAT EVENTS SET OFF ON ELECTION
DAY/WEEK WILL CREATE INTERNAL STRIFE FOR THE
US – WELL INTO 2009.
People, and the US as a whole will be feeling angry and ready to fight. Also, anyone who tells you the housing crash is over is just plain lying. It’s not over. Not by a long shot. The entire next 4 year administration will b forced to look at this problem, as well as the problem of dwindling resources, food supplies and other basics of life.
These problems will continue regardless of who takes the White House. For my money, I say Obama is the clear winner to the people, but the McCaine Republicans will try to steal it and it will be an ugly battle. Computers are the culprit. Perhaps even some good old fashioned protests will get stirred up. Mars is the focus of all this energy. We can expect Election Day to trigger all the standard angry, warlike results. But don’t forget that Mars also rules sexuality. I think we are in for more salacious sex scandals than you can shake a, umm, stick at.
Below is an excerpt from this weeks Newsletter for all to read. Obviously everyone is worried about the financial crises on Wall Street, in the mortgage industry and the stock market and what it means for the future. There is also a lot of buzz out there about the Mayan calendar and the date of Dec 21, 2012 when that calendar comes to an end. Many people have even speculated that it means Armegeddan. My view is NO, it’s not the hysteria that some people want to make it out as.
But we ARE in for some very disruptive times. There will be more financial chaos related to banking, mortgages and the stock market all through October (stay tuned for my October Horoscope). The upshot is that we have gotten so far away from nature that this was necessary to get our collective feet back on the ground, WE NEED TO START CARING FOR EARTH, OUR HOME. Here is what I wrote about the Astrology of this current financial upheaval in stocks, banking and mortgages and what it means for the future 2012 and beyond:
THE LONG VIEW: OK, I could write 10 pages about this, but I know that neither of us has that kind of time. So here’s the cliff notes version:
*The governments (around the world) will collapse. Astrological indicators show that this will happen within the next 20 years.
*In the short term, money is currently being consolidated into the hands of a small number of people.
*The next way wealth will be measured is by who controls the worlds assets like: gold, platinum, metals, land and business. This will put companies and corporations in charge of word decisions.
*The Earth herself is waking up to the abuses humans have heaped upon her, and not to sound all ‘fire and brimstone’ or anything – but with Katrina and all, we ‘aint seen nothin’ yet. Life on this planet is going to get more physically HARD in a lot of places. This includes the Western World.
*Finally, not all of this will happen at once. And while it IS happening there is a huge rebuilding of the NEW paradigm of life on earth. THIS is where all the joy and hope and prosperity really exists.
If you want to hear/say more on the subject, your comments are welcome below.
And if you want to learn how to MAKE THE MOST of all this craziness then go here while the special is still good:
I keep saying on this blog that the Solar Eclipse allows the feminine energy of the Moon to ECLIPSE or overshadow the standard business as usual stale old boys club Solar energy of the SUN. Well, now Paris Hilton has gone and proved it, in a very hilarious way.
If you’d like to see it at it’s original exclusive location it is at funnyordie.com.
This Paris Hilton video is a satire of the very successful campaign ad that McCain just ran. And just in case you’ve been stuck in the outback fighting off Dingo’s and walleroo’s for the past 2 weeks and missed the original McCain AD that closed a 9 point gap between him and Obama in just a week here is the CBS coverage of it:
Well, it is true that she’s way hotter than either the white haired old wrinkly guy OR that other guy. And no matter how you slice it, I would vote for her policy way before either of those b*tches. How come it takes a *dumb blonde* to bridge the gap that neither the Political parties, the pundits nor the posers can manage to achieve?
French Coach Raymond Domenech is known to be interested in Astrology, which has led some to speculate that he may use the Horoscope to select his starting line-up. No word from Domenech himself on this. when asked what he thought about playing on Friday the 13th he quipped:
“I’m not superstitious,” a relaxed Domenech told a news conference on Thursday. “It brings bad luck.” (Reuters: Superstitious Domenech)
Weather or not he uses Astrology to gain that competitive edge, he hasn’t lost his sense of humor. Domenech is both a colorful character and a very successful coach. He is known to rile up his players by saying he uses telepathy and distrusts his Scorpio players (USA Today: France coach unfazed). Well, whatever he’s doing, it’s working. He’s got a great coaching record – with or without the help of Astrology.
Much is being made of astrology in politics these days. Everybody and their cousin is talking about Hilary vs Obama and their Horoscopes. It is worth pointing out here that BOTH Astrology And Politics are ruled by the planet Uranus. Even the Huffington Post is running a piece called huffpollstrology. The recent news about British Intelligence using Astrology has been all over the wires for over a week. Here’s an excerpt from the ABC article:
“It seems former US President Ronald Reagan wasn’t the first to be accused of using astrology to make key foreign policy decisions.”
My point here is that the Astrologers Ronald Reagan (mostly Nancy actually) used – Jean Dixon among others, sure seemed to work for him. He DID have a brilliant political career – there is really no arguing with this point. Clearly some Astrology is better than others (for bad Astrology, just look at huffpollstrology). And one top point to remember is that a Horoscope in the local paper can do very little (if anything) to help you plan for your life.
On the other hand ABC is very lacking in their reporting on this subject. The reporter Stephanie Kennedy obviously didn’t do her research here. She has neglected to mention (or notice) that the forefathers of our country used Astrology to choose it’s July 4th Birthday. Benjamin Franklin was a master Astrologer, one who used Declinations (a technique I also use) to help choose that date for the creation of America. You will have to search long and hard to find any current Astrologers who have any idea how to use Declinations. And yet they are at least as powerful as the usual Astrology Charts.
“Astrology is one of the most ancient sciences, held in high esteem of old, by the wise and great. Formerly no prince would make war or peace, nor any general fight a battle, in short no important affair was undertaken without first consulting an astrologer.” Click here to see this quote in it’s original context.
Benjamin Franklin, 1751
Benjamin Franklin was also the publisher of a periodical called ‘The Farmer’s Almanac” which points out the best Astrological time for planting crops. And yet, here in the US we have consistently gone away from the timeless wisdom of planting with the flow, instead we genetically engineer our foods so that they have little if any nutrition left and may no longer even be good for us.
Not only that, but many of the dates used in our electoral process were chosen because they would always be energetically supportive of the USA’s best interests and well-being. This has since been messed with by a few of our more barbaric administrations. (Did they know they were messing with a good thing?). Certainly our current economic and housing crisis’ are good evidence that the great prosperity and abundance we experienced all through the 80’s and 90’s is indeed very messed up.
In the end what I can offer is that you begin to Understand and learn the real Secret to how the Universe works. I don’t mean the information that was presented in the Book/Movie. I mean the REAL secrets of the universe. If you try and use the ideas in the movie without a real understanding of them you are more likely than not to have them BACKFIRE on you. These principles have been used throughout time by those who understand them for the purpose of helping humanity or for the purpose of controlling and enslaving humanity – depending on who was in power. It is your right to understand and use the power of Astrology and the principles of the Universe. Otherwise, those in the know can and will use this knowledge against you.
There was just a story on Yahoo today about how the British Intelligence MI5 hired an Astrologer to help them defeat Hitler. This has prompted me to write an article on how to spot a fake, a grifter or a charletan disguised as a counselor. The information was recently released in British documents that had become declassified. The Astrologer they hired caused them a lot of problems and was ultimately a liability, a fake and probably a charletan.
This brings up a lot of good questions around the practice of Astrology, and made me want to point out a few things you should be wary of when hiring someone to consult for you, so as not to be taken by a scam or grifter. These rules apply to Astrology, Psychics and alternative healers as well. It is a sad thing, but unfortunately there are people who use these fields to take advantage of others. Some warning signs to spot a scam artist:
Grandiosity - ego, a sense of entitlement, behaving like royalty (some fakers even assume titles). This was exactly the case with the so called astrologer hired by the British Intelligence, Louis de Wohl. He was creating a ‘made up glory’ to impress people, but it was fake. The problem with such a thing is that, like fake diamonds many people fall for such cheap tactics.
Excessive costumes and/or props – delivering a useful service has very little to do with costume, props or settings. I used to live in Santa Monica and work at the Psychic Eye Bookstore that used to be located there (this is the largest and most well-established metaphysical Bookstore in the country). This is near the Venice boardwalk, and I would go to the boardwalk on occasion and there were many charletan readers set up there on the beach. Sure there were probably a few good ones too. By far the busiest one was a man who dressed from head to toe in strange turban like robes. Yet, he did not belong to any established group I could identify (such as the Tibetan Buddhists or the Seiks, etc). When I managed to ask him about this, he became very haughty, defensive and suddenly acted like he couldn’t speak English. He never did answer my question about where he was from, couldn’t answer my direct questions about Astrology and Tarot cards, and he literally turned away from me and refused to speak to me any more. I am pretty sure that this guy was a charlatan. Don’t be taken in by these gimmicks.
A truly gifted counselor is more likely to look like you or your neighbor than a walking cliche. Among more seasoned pro’s this, and people who walk around waving crystals and burning incense is seen as a telltale sign of the amateur.
An uncaring or selfish attitude – clearly this is a ‘people’ profession. A scam artist will not really care about you or your results. They may also use intimidation or guilt tactics if you voice concern.
Making things sound too good to be true – any really good counselor will point out the areas where you can achieve better results by shifting your behaviors or attitudes, and they may suggest you do some work on yourself. This is just basic common sense. But a fake counselor will paint only rosy pictures and tell you that it’s all someone else’s fault. They will not encourage personal responsibility. This is a sure sign of a scam, and you should run.
An appeal to greed – I once attended a group that was dedicated to ‘mediumship’ and nearly instantly it became clear that the appeal for those who attended was for gaining financial settlements over the deaths of those who they were attempting to contact. There was zero mention of healing, letting go or love. All discussion was directed towards the details that would ‘win’ a lawsuit, inheritance or other financial settlement. This is just plain creepy, steer very clear of any similar situation.
Lack of Established Community Standing – cheats and sneaks usually don’t stay put for long and almost never have a byline appear on a local paper or magazine for a period of years. If someone has been a visible member of a community for a period of time, chances are that they are at least sincere in their efforts and craft. For example Rob Brezny has been writing for the SF Weekly for ever. He doesn’t even do readings anymore, but he knows his stuff.
I am sure there are other things to watch out for, but these are some of the main ones I’ve seen. Above all though, EGO is the kiss of death. Steer very clear of it. Anyone who is too attached to their own ego cannot be evolved enough to give good counseling. And while this alone may not be a sign they are a charlatan, it definitely means they aren’t too evolved.
I’m not asking to be rude or anything, it’s just that a few things have changed since us, um, grownups, got out of grade school.
Just yesterday Johnnie Mnemonic reminded us of this fact, here’s an Excerpt from his recent blog post:
“Maryn Smith, a 10-year-old fourth-grader at Riverview Elementary School in Great Falls, Mont., knows that there are 11 planets in the solar system. In order of increasing distance from the sun, they are, of course, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Eris.
The trouble is, you and millions of Americans just like you don’t know any of this.”
But once you, I and millions of Americans learn the Mnemonic Maryn Smith created, we may have more hope of remembering it. That mnemonic is:
My Very Exciting Magic Carpet Just Sailed Under Nine Palace Elephants.
There is more going on in this Universe than we have time to contemplate, but now at least we can remember a little bit more of it.
Like any ancient system, a full understanding of Chinese Astrology is extremely complicated, but here are a few basic rules. If you want to get into much greater detail here is a very thorough site on Chinese Astrology.

THE CHINESE ELEMENTS
The five elements: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth
These elements rotate in a 10 year cycle, when combined with the animal years we get a 60 year cycle. The rotation goes like this:
Yang Wood, Yin Wood,
Yang Fire, Yin Fire,
Yang Earth, Yin Earth,
Yang Metal, Yin Metal,
Yang Water and Yin Water
The elements either support or destroy one another when combined – and this has a great impact on compatibility with others and your luck during a given year. These are also the principles that Feng Shui is based upon.
2008 is the year of the Earth Rat – specifically it is a YIN (female) Earth Rat, also called the Brown Earth Rat. Last year – 2007 was also an Earth year, but it was YANG earth year, in the animal year of the Pig.
Because the Chinese New Year always begins on a New Moon many people make the mistake of believing it follows the Lunar (Moon cycle). This is not true. It would be far more appropriate to say that it follows the Jupiter Cycle – which lasts 12 years, just like the 12 animal years. The Chinese New year does not actually start until the next Chinese New Calendar begins – which takes place when the Tiger Month begins each year. In 2008 this actually happens on FEB 4th.
The FIVE Elements of Chinese Astrology either support or fight with each other. Elements support each other in the following order:
Metal supports Water nourishes Wood feeds Fire gives to Earth grows Metal…
The Destructive relationships are:
Wood fights with Metal
Fire fights with Water
Soil fights with Wood
Metal fights with Fire
Water fights with Soil
Since this is an Earth year it is especially good for those born in a Metal year. It will be more challenging for those born in a Water or Wood year.

*The year of the Fire Horse. Anyone one born in this year is considered to be so head strong and full of impulse that they are often dangerous and disruptive to the home. It was considered especially bad to be a girl born in this year and is called hinoeuma. In ancient China girl babies born in a Fire Horse year were often drowned, and were considered unmarriageable. In 1966 the abortion rate in China was so high that it was shocking because so many parents did not want to have Fire Horses in their homes. Many other parents simply waited until the following year to register the birth of their child to help the baby avoid the prejudice such Fire Horse children (especially girl children) would receive.
**The year of the Golden Pig. Considered in Chinese Astrology to be the luckiest of all years. The most auspicious time to start a business or other profit making venture. To me this is because of the alignment of Jupiter and Pluto which takes place once every 60 years, and therefore is always present during the year of the Golden Pig. This is a generally lucky influence – but it will ONLY be lucky for you personally if it is making good aspects for YOU.
