Why people disagree with Astrology

This article: Astrology, it’s no pseudoscience gives a very good overview of the three types of groups that have an argument with Astrology. The way I look at it, it’s pretty hard to disprove something you can’t understand.  In my experience most skeptics can’t really understand Astrology, and mostly succumb to contempt prior to investigation – which would get you fired if you were a detective!

Ironically, this sort of skepticism usually has Astrological indicators in a person’s chart. Someone with a lot of contacts between Saturn and Neptune or Saturn and Mercury will be very inflexible in the way they think or the point of view that they hold.  Sometime the argument against Astrology is a religious one.  Neptune rules religion, and when Neptune combines with Saturn, especially in the conjunction, square, opposition or quincunx it creates an extremely inflexible attitude – regardless of logic.

On the other extreme scientific people usually have Mercury – Saturn contacts.  These contacts allow them to have the very linear and logical thought processes needed for science.  So the next time you run into a serious skeptic – look at their chart for these indicators.  You won’t prove anything to them, but you will increase your own understanding of human nature!

The Winter Solstice, the Grinch and Santa Clause – Brrrr

Today is the winter solstice – the shortest, coldest day of the year. This is the day that has forever been used for ‘bringing in the light‘ ceremonies. These ceremonies serve to spiritually ask the light to return, since if it were to keep on getting smaller and colder, it wouldn’t be long before we were all human popsicles.

The day is short, not just because the Earth is far from the Sun but also because we are tilted away from the Sun. This is important because whenever a planet is over the North pole – it is cold. The opposite is true when it is over the South pole – then it is hot.

The story of Santa Clause is the story of the darkest coldest most Saturn day of the year being warmed up and lighted up by the Jolly Generous Fat Man (Jupiter). It is the metaphor for the returning of the light. We humans need this story, we need to believe that the light and the warmth will return. We need to believe that the light will crowd out the darkness, and it always does.

So light a candle and light the one that lives in your own soul. This is the day of the year that is ultimately about the Goodness of heart, spirit and generosity overcoming dark, bitter mean corners, sometimes called the Grinch. The best remedy for the Grinch is hearty laughter.

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You’re as cuddly as a cactus,
You’re as charming as an eel.
Mr. Grinch.

You’re a bad banana
With a greasy black peel.

You’re a monster, Mr. Grinch.
Your heart’s an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders,
You’ve got garlic in your soul.
Mr. Grinch.

I wouldn’t touch you, with a

The Grinch stealing Christmas

You’re a vile one, Mr. Grinch.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile.
Mr. Grinch.

Given the choice between the two of you
I’d take the seasick crocodile.

You’re a foul one, Mr. Grinch.
You’re a nasty, wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks
Your soul is full of gunk.

Today is the Sagittarius New Moon

Today is the New Moon in Sagittarius. The New Moon is always a cycle of new beginnings.  In Sagittarius, those beginnings are related to: foreign affairs (and people), higher education, travel, story telling (publishing) and philosophical outlook (religion).  Whatever house is governed by Sagittarius in your Chart will tell you more about the area of life where you will feel this 2 week cycle for new beginnings.

1st house: New outlook, new way of presenting yourself or your philosophy, meeting people for the first time, especially to join their group or organization. Branding a business, creating a ‘look’ or personal image makeover.

2nd house: New education around money or financial matters.  Taking a class on finances. Making a new deal with foreigners. Buying and selling art between cultures.  Expressing your values through money and philanthropy.

3rd house: Taking a short trip to learn something, tell a story or enjoy a movie/theater.  Reading a newspaper (Internet) article about foreigners or education. Writing fiction or stories and Selling to foreigners or schools.

4th house: Learning something at home (home study course), having guests who come from another culture or for a philosophical purpose.  Becoming deeply emotionally involved with a story, philosophy or cause. Publishing.  Seeking truth.

5th house: Putting on a play, dressing up in dramatic costumes, creating art, trying to influence people through color, character and drama. Gathering people together to have a good time, celebrating.

6th house: Details of routines and health needs to be re-examined and necessary changes made. Possible health problems. Gaining insight and help from foreigners or people with more education in a certain area.  Consulting an Expert.

7th house: Becoming attracted to a foreigner or someone from a different background. Making deals with unknown types of people. Discovering an exotic and beautiful item or craft in or from a foreign country.

8th house: Sharing assets (money, resources, time, energy) with others to achieve a shared mission or goal. Setting differences aside for mutual benefit. Gaining financial backing from unknown people or cultures.

9th house: travel to a foreign land, or meeting foreign people. Joining a new group or religion or taking a class or going to an event or concert. New beginnings come through groups of people.

10th house: Starting a career in publishing. Working to begin a new philosophy, education, story or gathering. Dealing with a prominent person from another culture.

11th house: Creating an infrastructure, or community that serves a cause. Creating an extended, cross-cultural community (think MySpace or Facebook). Entering a popularity contest. Leading a cause or group.

12th house: Uncovering religious persecution. Gaining spiritual strength from groups, fighting moral battles.  Revealing hidden agendas or secrets. Fighting against betrayal. Escapist tendencies with drugs, sex, religion.

Wherever it is, you can always make the most of the Sagittarius New Moon.

What can Zorro teach us about Retrograde?

First of all, let’s bust some useless Astrology Myths! By far the most commonly recognized Retrograde is Mercury Retrograde. But Mercury is not the only planet to go Retrograde. In fact every planet except the Sun and Moon go retrograde at some time or the other. That means Retrograde can apply to Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Sedna and even all the Asteroids: Chiron, Pallas, Juno, Vesta, and Ceres. Mercury Retrograde just happens more often – 3 times a year to be exact.

What is a Retrograde? Every so often the planets do a fancy dance step in the sky: they stop, appear to walk backwards (like the Michael Jackson Moonwalk), stop again and then recover that lost territory. They actually make a big Z motion in the sky – like a skybound Zorro.

How long does Retrograde last? It depends on the planet. Anywhere from 3 weeks to 6 months the planet will actually be moving backwards. But this answer is deceptive because the Retrograde Cycle lasts a lot longer than the actual retrograde. Only paying attention to the actual retrograde is like trying to understand the letter Z based only on the slash / that comprises the middle of the letter while ignoring the front and back tails of the letter.

Retrograde actually has 3 parts: These three parts are called, Entering the Shadow, being Retrograde and Exiting the Shadow. Entering the Shadow is like the first stroke of Zorro’s blade when he starts to make the Z – this is the top of the letter. When any planet is traveling across the sky, minding his own business – there is a moment when it prepares to enter Retrograde – this is called Entering the Shadow. This happens when the planet crosses that point in space that he will Retrograde Back to. Like the / slash in Zorro’s Z, on the second leg of it’s journey it returns to this same level in space. For Example: Let’s say that Mercury is whizzing along, ejoying himself, then he finds himself entering the Shadow. The experience while he is IN the shadow (and before Turning Retrograde) is like forshadowing in a movie – or a Preview of Coming Attractions. This is when we are actually given Advance Notice of the things to come. Then when we are in Retrograde and the problems emerge. This is when we SEE what needs to be fixed. These are the same things that we were given Advance Notice about during the first Shadow. Then a few weeks (or months, depending on the planet) later it goes DIRECT again. But we’re still not done. Zorro isn’t finished until he makes that final stroke of the Z. The final tail of the Z is also called the Shadow. But this time it is called exiting the Shadow. And this is the time when we catch up with all the problems we experienced during the Retrograde and are able to feel the results of the solutions we created.

Using Zorro as our example, let’s say that the masked hero is running along and passes an alley, where he sees a crime taking place. He then turns around (this is called going Station Retrograde) in order to come back to the scene of the trouble and fight it out to fix it. From the time he has seen the trouble until the time it takes him to slow down and turn around he has entered the Shadow At that moment when he turns around he has Gone Retrograde. Once he gets back to the scene and handles the situation he then turns around again (this is called going Station Direct). As he continues on his way, he is still Exiting the Shadow, until he is able to pass that point where he first saw what needed to be taken care of – before he managed to slow down and change directions. We assume that his is feeling happy and proud on this last leg of the Z for a job well done. Then he continues on about his business as usual. And his whole journey resembles the letter Z.

Imagine the possibilities that open up for you just from understanding that there are 3 parts to a planet’s Retrograde. Imagine that now you can get Advance Notice of what you will be needing to fix, just by paying attention to the stars. Each time there is a Retrograde, the issues and domaine of the Retrograde planet come up to be fixed. Below is a partial list of what each Retrograde cycle means.

Mercury: Mind, thinking, words, short journeys, communication, software, driving, neighbors, pets, co-workers, employees and siblings.
Venus: Values, attractions, that which we desire or which desires us, money, art, movable wealth (like jewelry or jemstones), beauty, the law of attraction.
Mars: Action, war, agression, sports, athletics, dance, movement, muscles, competition, the desire to win, knives, guns, cutting instruments, new beginnings.
Jupiter: Learning, long journeys, the legal system, foreigners, myths, stories, symbolism, publishing, philosophies, group agendas, the search for truth, forgiveness.
Saturn: Hardship, burdens, karma, struggle, rules, order, time, structure, organization, growing up, bad lawsuits, control, domination, fear, pettiness, cruelty.
Pluto: Big business, compusions, power, transformation, use of mass resources, explosions, unseen roots, pyschology, hypnotherapy, money from success or mass systems.
Uranus: Politics, the needs and desires of the masses; public utilities, mass transit, railroads, shipping, the Internet, social groups, awards galas & events, peer recognition, mathematics, astrology, classical music, TV & broadcasting equipment.
Neptune: Organic compounds or resources from the earth or oceans (including animals), religion, spirituality, illusion, make-up, film, chemicals, biological sciences, mud and other maleable substances, fog and other cloudlike substances, the astral plane, lower level psychic information (often filled with illusion, or addiction), addictions, drugs and undirected or undisciplined altered states of consciousness, deception.

This is nowhere near a complete list, but it should stimulate some brain cells! Astrology is a complicated system, but by simply understanding the meanings of a Retrograde Cycle you can gain worlds of insight about what may be currently effecting you. The planets closest to the Sun – Mercury, Venus and Mars have a relatively short cycle which lasts just a few months. But the very far off planets like Pluto have very LONG cycles that can last for a decade or longer. Weather it is the Retrograde Mercury or a Retrograde Mars, or Pluto that you are wondering about, I am sure you can get a better understanding of what each one means from this simple guide.

Burn the Question?

And the Winner is………. Diane! You have just won a Free Report from me (a $49 value). I am confident that you will find information in my report that you have never seen before – this is why I stand behind them so much. But you are still correct that it is impossible for a report to show you the ‘whole picture’ so below I am describing the product that I will be creating. Diane please send me an email at auracle*astrologychick.com (replace the * with @) with 1. your name, 2. birthdate, 3. birth time and 4.location along with the same 4 pieces of info for a partner or potential partner! You’re the winner!
Thank you to everyone who voted on the Astrology Tutorial product! There will be more chances to win great prizes soon!
I will be making it a video, and will do what I can to answer all the questions that I got from you. If anyone still has more to add, please share below in the comments.

**Please note** Because this is a product designed to stand the test of time I cannot go into any forcast or current trend detail. Instead this is focused on teaching you tools for recognizing the trends in your own life. “Feed a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” It is my intention to teach those who desire it how to eat for a lifetime. Sound good? Please leave your comments below.
I will be creating a video that gives an overview of reading the WHOLE of a chart and seeing the ‘Eagles Eye’ view, since I agree with Diane that too much of it is a bunch of little pieces with not enough total perspective. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

*A video tutorial walking you through a free online chart service where you can instantly create your own chart.
*How to think in terms of Astrology Principles – so you can ‘see’ the big picture in any chart.
*Recognizing the Geometry that no Astrology Report can ever tell you about!!
*Understanding the different Geometry and what it means to you.
*What combined Geometry means for you with another person or transit.
*Power Places in the chart: Happy Planets and Unhappy Planets
*Capitalizing on times of major life change: The role of the Angles: Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant and Nadir.
*Knowing when houses are important and when to pay less attention to them.

And probably the most important point of allFree Will in using the energy of the Planets! Every chart contains astonishing gifts and blessings. It is recognizing them that allows us to unleash their power and showers us with divine abundance and right livlihood, right relationship and right connection to our own spiritual truth and value. It is when we share our value and our spiritual blessings that we become our greatest joy, it is also when we are able to express the greatest good and broadest impact in the world.

And that’s not all, every chart is special, every person has unique talents and gifts. It is my goal to show you how to tap into these at will and use them to manifest all the joy, abundance and empowerment that God and the Universe intend for you! Even challenging times hold great gifts and opportunites – if we know how to look for them. And this is what I intend to share with you. Sound Good? Let me know!

Astrology Q&A – Star of David in Synastry

First I’d just like to thank everyone for the great questions and remind other Astrologers that their comments are welcomed here. I will get to some of the other questions posted when my schedule eases up a bit later in the week. When posting a Question please remember to ask something about Astrology so that others can also learn – this is not the place to look for a free reading. For complete answers you can always schedule an Astrology Reading with me, or purchase my Guaranteed Astrology Reports.

The Question: I was drawing up synastry charts over the weekend for myself and people I know. I found that I have effectively a Star of David (one point was 9′ from perfect) between my chart and my friends chart. (not to mention 6 other oppositions!)I know the Star of David is rare – what is its general meaning in synastry? ThanksThe Answer: Yes, a Star of David is Extremely rare.

But first lets define the Star of David. It is two interlocking Grand Trines, placed so that there are 6 sextiles formed by the two Grand Trines. For this reason the Star of David is also sometimes called a Grand Sextile. Within this pattern you will also see two crossed Mystic Rectanges. Any part of this pattern by itself is very powerful: A Grand Trine, a Kite, a Mystic Rectangle, a Half of a Grand Sextile (which is fomed by an opposition with two Sextiles on one side of it, all of which falls within one half of the chart wheel).

In order for any of this to apply the orbs must be within 3 degrees (sorry – 9 is just too far away). The meaning of the Pattern depends entirely on the planets involved. Different Geometry means diferent things. Just a few possibilites are: Grand Trine, Kite, Yod, Finger of Fate, Mystic Rectangle, Grand Square, T-Square – but there are others.
The Star of David is so rare in fact that it is almost never found in the charts of Individual people at all. Howard Huges had an almost Star of David in is Sun Chart (his destiny Chart). Tom Cruise is the rare individual who actually has a Star of David in his Destiny (Sun) Chart. Because it is in his Sun Chart you can’t see it on the usual Astrology Maps. I will post it on a protected page here on my Blog so that you can see it, along with a full listing of powerful planetary alignments – with pictures. If you are a Subscriber to my Weekly Horoscope I will be discussing this in the Next Newsletter, and you will get the link in the Newsletter. But this is only available to my Subscribers.

As for your links with your friends – first make sure that you don’t use orbs that are too large. If you make your Charts at Astro.com (where you can have a free account), I recommend setting the orbs to 50% – that will give you a better idea of what you are really looking at. In some special cases I will stretch it out to 4′ – but NEVER more than that. Then look at the patterns that are there and understand that any geometrical alignment (and I’ve only listed a few here) is more powerful than nearly anything else you can have. Geometry formed with another person shows great synergy, power, combined efforts, the abilty to grow together, assist one another and generally achieve success together. However – and this is big – the way this can happen is entirely dependent on the planets involved and their relationships with each other. Unfortunately, as good as technology is, it can’t fully recognize patterns yet – so this type of geometry can only be seen accurately with human eyes.
Good for you for picking it out. Now, your ability to see what’s really going on in a chart (or chart synastry) will improve and so will your accuracy if you shrink your orbs down to 3′. I suspect that there will still be some very strong synastry with you and your friend, but now you will see what is most important in that Synastry. This will help you understand your relationships better. No matter what, you two are clearly part of the same soul family. And that is something to celebrate! The details of that relationship, and it’s connections hold the keys to understanding your soul’s purposes for knowing one another – and how you will assist one another towards your deepest life’s missions.

Thank you for your Question!

Horary Astrology – Prediction of Future Events

The answering of questions of questions in the light of planetary influences is popularly known as Horary Astrology or the Prasna Sastra. It relates to the important events in the daily events and happenings of human life. This branch of astrology indeed forms the most useful and prominent aspect of astrological science.

It helps a lot in foretelling the occurrences of many important future events beforehand. How and when a event will take place, what may be their exact nature, when will they terminate favorably, who is instrumental for them and how far are those events beneficial or detrimental to the interest of the party concerned are all foretold by astrologers without reference to the birth chart.

If any obstacle or hindrance is thrown in the way of success of any undertaking or enterprise, and if such hindrances are ascertained beforehand by means of Horary Astrology, then ways to minimize such obstacles or hindrances or completely overcome such evils can be resorted, so that in future no things smoothen out in future and progress can be made.

In the case of horary astrology, we first of all ascertain the exact time at which a question is asked and for the time mark, the positions of planets and the Ascendants is determined. The ascendant is called the Prasna Lagna or the rising sun at the time of the question.

1.The success and failure in any undertaking, such as the starting of business, examination results etc. should be predicted with reference to the Prasna lagna. The object of the person involved will succeed if a beneficial sun rises and joins the favorable navamsa.

2.If at the time of the query, the rising sun be in the 1st, 4rth, and the 7th ; 2nd, 5th and 8th; and in the 3rd, 6th and the 9th navamsas, the question refers to minerals, vegetables and animals respectively in an odd sign and in an even sign, the reverse holds good.

3.If at the time of query, the Saturn is found in an odd sign from the prasna lagna, the woman will have a male child, and if Saturn occupies an even position, a female child will be born.

4.If the Saturn is in the 7th house, the person asking the question will be married within three months from the date of asking the question.

5.If at the time of query, it is found that the Sun, Venus or Mars joins the 7th house, it refers that the person involved has an extra marital affair. Jupiter in the 7th house indicates that the woman is a prostitute and Saturn indicates that the person is a low caste man.

6.Any planet between the 8th house and the ascendant, predicts the safe return of a person who has gone to foreign land.

7.Recovery from illness should be predicted if the benefic are in prasna lagna.

8.Predict the nature of stolen article by considering the navamsa of the rising sun, the nature of the thief by drekkana and the age and the thief by the lord of the ascendant.

9.During the rainy season, predict early rain when the Saturn and Venus occupy the 7th house from the sun and the moon respectively and if the Saturn and Venus are in the 4th and 8th house from the prasna lagna.

Suppose a person wants to know whether his stolen goods can be regained or not, whether an individual suffering from serious illness will recover or not, whether it would be profitable to invest money in any business or not, whether a man will be beneficial through speculation or not, all such questions can be successfully answered with the Horary astrology and by following the above principles.

Astrology Q&A: Saturn in the Dark, or Station Direct

The Question: Hi. Just wondering about something I heard this past week. I was told that Saturn was turned somehow to make it dark for the past couple of weeks. All I really know is that myself and about 10 of my friends have had the worst last 10 days. As in, the worst things that have ever happened to us have happened just recently, all independantly of eacho other. I am all about taking personal responsibility, but I also know that nature gives us patterns for a reason. I would like to know what Saturn was doing through the middle of April so that I might take more care if it ever comes around again. Thanks.

The Answer: First of all, thanks for your question and I invite comments from other Astrologers always! I found a few resources about this online. But first of all, Saturn changed directions in April. It stationed and turned Direct on April 20th – so most likely what you are referring to is the impact that this had on all of your charts.

Since you are talking about a group of friends who are probably close in age, I expect that all of you either share a generational Signature in your chart – such as Pluto, Uranus or another slow moving body OR you have other cross linking aspects with each other. Generation Y has Pluto in Scorpio (which would have been very hard hit by Saturn) – but most of them are still children. It sounds like all of your friends were transited at the same time by Saturn. Since Saturn made it’s Station Direct on the 20th – the days before and after would have had the greatest influence; that would be from the 15th-25th. Then, for you and your friends who had planets or sensitive points at 15′-21′ degrees of Leo, Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius, Pisces or Capricorn this would have been a very challenging time period. I happen to have 2 Taurus planets and 1 in Scorpio that were hit by Saturn then, and I wound up with an allergy attack that’s kept me sick for 3 weeks! And I never get sick. Sometimes different Astrologers use different language to describe the same thing, and you may have read something about Saturn entering or exiting it’s Shadow – which is another element of what I am talking about here. This may be what you are referring to as ‘dark.’ As you can see from the links below, Saturn is actually quite bright. But if you really want to know what was happening then get an Astrology Report for that time.

As for it coming around again, the planets are always on the move, so something is always happening – but you’re not likely to get that same transit (influence) again for a long time.  But you’re right that understanding it can help you be prepared if it comes around again.
Here are a few astronomical links: This link talks about how bright Saturn has been: http://skytonight.com/observing/ataglance

The Most Powerful Planetary Alignments

One very little known truth about Astrology is that the most powerful Aspects or alignments are not necessarily easy to see. This is becuase they take place on more than one dimension – or more than one level. Most Astrology looks at chart maps as if they are on a flat plane – like the piece of paper they are drawn upon. But the Original Astrologers always looked at the sky to deturmine what they were seeing. By looking at the sky the Astrologer can see, not only what sign and degree the planet is in – for example Venus at 12′ Pisces. They could also see the Elevation of the planet in question. This is incredibly important because it is Elevation (also called Declination) that is responsible for Eclipses. When an Eclipse happens, both planets must not only be in the same sign (take 12′ Pisces as our example) but also at the same declination. If, for example Mars is also at 12′ Pisces that means that it is in conjunction with Venus – which has a certain power and significance in a chart. But if Mars and Venus are also at the same Declination then the power of that conjuction is multiplied. Various planets in the sky will eclipse each other all the time.

Astrology Q&A Free Will and Pluto Transits

The Question: Hi Aura
Thanks for the really interesting blog!
Pluto transits often cause blight to the old ways but if one can work with them, they can accelerate one’s evolution, I think. A few months ago Pluto moved into my 2nd house, currently conjuct natal mercury and, while there’s not much good news from other transits, Pluto is trining my 6th house moon and Rx Jupiter will trine my natal Pluto in June. What would be most useful to hear is when these scary Pluto transits occur, do you look to the “easy” aspects to concentrate your attention and come out the other side winning, or perhaps to the ruler of the house being transited? Or am I on the wrong track here?
My natal details: 02 Jan 1947,02.10am, Durban, South Africa (29S55′E 0.30E56′)

The Answer: Well, yes you are right that Pluto transits can be intense. But please remember the #1 thing to look at when interpreting any planet is what angles (aspects) it is making. Squares are hard, trines are blessings and conjunctions can go either way – but usually the balance is positive.

PLUTO gets a worse rap than he deserves. Because nearly all Astrology (including Vedic, Uranian and anything else you can think of) overlooks the Declinations (planetary elevation) and the Helio Centric (Sun) Charts you are only really looking at maybe 25% of the picture that is going on with standard Astrology. Usually when someone is having a hard time in their life, and blaming it on some wide angle to Pluto it is not Pluto at all, but maybe a tough square, opposition, parallel or contra-parallel from Saturn or other planet (maybe even Pluto) on one of these unseen levels. All I’m trying to point out here is that you can’t judge a situation when you don’t look at the whole picture.

Houses are only the general coloring that the experience will take – like the Cherry on top of the Sunday, it’s not to be mistaken for the Sunday itself! Most important when looking at houses are the angles (Ascendant, Descendant, MidHeaven and Nadir) – anything on the angles will be prominent, intense and completely life transforming. The Angles are the personal equivalent of the seasonal changes – the Equinoxes and the Solstices.

Transiting of a Retrograde Planet: In your case Jupiter to Pluto – You are right, Jupiter is Rx then, but this actually means you get the transit 3 times – once already happened when Jupiter was in range of your Pluto the first time, the second one happens on the Retrograde and the third one happens when Jupiter is direct again and before it catches up to itself in October. Jupiter-Pluto Transits are some of the absolute best ones you can possibly have, especially trines and conjunctions (as well as aspects in the Elevations and Sun Chart). If you need to compete for something and hope to win the prize, then this is the BEST aspect to look for. Also remember no aspect operates in a vaccuum – they combine with each other to create an overall picture. Sometimes even challenging aspects are part of a very useful overall picture. The worst things of all to watch out for are: the T-square, especially if Saturn is involved, and debilitated planets (in detriment or fall) as well as (some) Retrograde trouble. But Retrograde Jupiter is NOT a problem – not at all! Just a very specific picture with specific Karma attached to it.

I specialize in Electional Astrology – planning for best success, and would specifically look for ways to harness this energy for your success. You can look back at what was happening the first time this transit took place to get a better idea of what the next two will mean. But ultimately there are two ways to approach Astrology transits (and life in general).

One way is: Life happens (or shit happens) approach and is passive – “hey what can I do, life just ‘happened to me’”. This is a rudderless way to live life and leans heavily on the idea of Destiny. With this approach, we would look at a transit as happening to the person. I think it is something of a cop out, because I believe we are all responsible for the quality of the life we have – it is the result of our choices and decisions – and what we make of what we’ve got.

The other way is: Taking responsibilty for what you want and using what’s available to get you there. This is Electional Astrology – using the transits to help you get where you want to go. I don’t discount the idea of karma and destined meetings or even obstacles. These are part of the lifepath with it’s unique gifts, challenges and opportunities for growth. In this approach we would look at a transit as a window of energy that represents a time to take advantage of or a lesson to be absorbed and learned. This is empowering and supposes that we all have Free Will and potential mastery over our own destiny.

For me, Astrology is ONLY useful when we suppose Free Will. In my weekly Horoscope I take the other elements – Planetary Elevation and Sun Charts into consideration (as I do in every session I do) and, as far as I know I am the only person out there who does this. However, due to the nature of a Horoscope and how it works, I can only write from the perspective of what is happening to each sign, it’s not possible to write it any differently. I am currently writing a book that will give a more full perspective on how to USE Astrology practically and usefully. As a subscriber you will get the first notification when this and other learning tools are available.

Astrology Q&A: Career indicators in the Natal Chart

The Question: My birthday is July 16, 1963 I was born at 5:43 pm. Victoria, B.C. Canada. My question is which direction should I go for in a career move. I’m very undecided, I know it’s in the service industry-helping people. Not sure if I should go to school to become a Naturalpathic Doctor or find a regular job in my community. HELP! Thank you! PEACE – Melanie

The Answer: First of all, I can’t really do justice to this big of a question – what are your career talents – in this short format. But I will give you my first impressions. Just remember that this is too big and important of a question to answer with only a small amount of attention.

Looking at your chart, you have a Great Big Grand Trine in Water Signs right in the middle of your Chart. This gives you easy blessings but not necessarily a huge amount of drive! In it Chiron, Venus and Neptune are not only trining but applying as well – which makes this a very powerful blessing and huge spiritual protection. You will certainly have the compassion, caring and bedside manner necessary to make a great Doctor or healer, and you will want to do something healing and of benefit to the world and humanity – you are altruistic. And because Venus is involved with Neptune here, you definitely are capable of making money from the field of medicine and healing. *NOTE* Read my posts on this years Eclipses because they are impacting your Chiron in Pisces and the Eclipses are all about health and healing all year long.

The most noticable thing about your chart from my point of view is how very filled with easy aspects it is. Easy aspects give easy blessings, but not necessarily a world beating amount of inner drive. Your biggest (and almost only) challenge is the squares to the Moon which help give you some drive and ambition, but also create frustration and emotional obstacles, as well as inconsistent levels of concentration. I would say that you have everything you need to achieve anything you desire, however you might sometimes be your own biggest obstacle! Something unconscious may stand in your way (the Moon) and this makes it a challenge to get to the bottom of things or to understand what the problem might be.

I would suggest doing inner work, like hypnotherapy sessions and of course a full Astrology Session will give you a LOT more information.

Astrology Q&A HelioCentric Destiny (Sun Charts)

The Question: I’ve also got a powerful Sun Chart as well, I think. Can you check it out for me. Born 10:11 am, September 3, 1964. Thanks, Rebecca

The Answer: Hmm, your Helicentric Chart is very interesting and has a lot going on in it. You know that I look at Sun Charts (Helio Centric Charts) as the destiny Chart. You have a Grand Trine in yours (great) and a multiple T-square (not so great). The bottom line here is that your Destiny is what you make of it (but then that’s usually the case). The Grand Trine gives you a great headstart and a lot of help in business and making money since it is composed of Jupiter, Pluto and the Asteroid Ceres. You can certainly get whatever you want (probably from whomever you want)! But the Heliocentric T-square is too complex to go into in this format. The upshot is that you must be careful not to get too swept into fantasy or to take the ‘easy way out.’ There’s always a price to pay, especially when something seems too easy. I might recommend you become a writer or some kind of communicator since that is what will balance your chart out in the long run.

Also in your Destiny (Helio Centric Chart) your Mars is sitting there all alone and completely unaspected – and so are Venus and Saturn. A very interesting relationship with your actions and values, and the rules of society. There are some real lessons of destiny here for you. Rules, Actions and your own inner moral compass are all the highlights of those destined experiences. Very interesting!

Of course I can only go into detail in a private session, but yours is definitely one of the more complicated Sun Charts that I’ve seen!

Astrology Q&A Psychic Connections Between two Charts

The Question: Everything I have read about my son’s chart suggests problems with family/mother. It worries me for our future! He (son) is June 13, 2003, 8:07PM, Cookeville, TN. I (mom) am February 6, 1969, 11:21AM, Laurel, Maryland. Dad is February 6, 1972, 7:30pm, Cookeville, TN. (Yeah, I know! Mom and Dad share a birthday!) My son and I definitely have a telepathic link, he seems to read my mind — but he doesn’t know it yet, he’s only 3.5 years-old. He seems VERY familiar to me, if past lives exist, then we share this. Is there any information/concerns you can share concerning our relationship in reading our charts? Also, any guiding words of wisdom on how to raise this boy? What career path would he be suited for? Thanks so much for your interesting site and the opportunity to ask a question!
Sara

The Answer: First of all – Stay away from ‘Cook Book’ Astrology!! It will only give you a small portion of the picture and leave you more confused than when you started! Looking at your son’s chart I don’t see any horrible Saturn Aspects which is the #1 indicator for problems with the father. In fact his Saturn is extremely well aspected which suggests a very good relationship with authority figures and the ability to focus, be organized and work hard. You may think that Saturn in Cancer is the problem, and it’s true Saturn isn’t too comfortable in Cancer, but that isn’t as important when the Saturn is getting as much help as his does from the Aspects (which are more important than the signs).

As far as the relationship with Mom (you), his Moon conjuncts Pluto and both planets are part of a Grand Trine to Jupiter and the Asteroid Pallas Athena. The Moon Pluto conjunction can explain the psychic connection and the feeling of past life recognition. You also have strong Mercury Moon connections between you, which will add to your ability to communicate unconsciously. AND, if that wasn’t enough his Neptune is nearly on your Sun which will make him able to read your wants and also make him want to give you what you want! He is a deeply instinctual person. He will percieve you (Mom) as being very intense, but this will teach him not to be afraid of his own power and he is likely to achieve a position of power and authority easily in his life. The biggest challenge here with you is making sure he respects your authority. But he definitely needs to be allowed to pursue his own interests.

Actually, your son has a very blessed chart without a lot of huge challenges. The biggest problems I see are perhaps a tendency towards self-sabotage and the challenges between Mars conjunct Uranus squaring Mercury with Uranus squaring Venus. Unpredictablity, breaking rules and the desire to shock people. He’s a rebel at heart. But this also indicates a stormy relationship between his Mom and Dad ;-o — So my best suggestion is for you to be as stable as possible!! Intensity and rebellion are only problems when they aren’t given an appropriate outlet, so he needs to be allowed to express the intense side of his nature in whatever form he is drawn to – marital arts, drama, psychic development.

Otherwise, an Astrology Reading can give you much more detail as well as copies of all your Charts, your Sun charts and a recording for you and your child to refer to in the future.
