Mercury went Retrograde in Virgo on the 21st of August. Here’s an overview Video I did that explains the way that Retrograde works:

This one affects the entire Generation X – since it is crossing over the Uranus – and Pluto in Virgo that this entire generation shares. Expect Power and Unpredictability issues to surface, also major changes in routines and employment (unemployment) situations.
Mercury Retrograde didn’t cause the current job crisis, and it won’t fix it, but what it WILL do is focus our attention on it. The most likely scenario from my perspective? Now that Mercury is Retrograde – the news will tell us that the job market is recovering. This is a lie. Once Mercury turns direct, the smoke will start to clear and the real economic carnage will start to be seen.
Also, nobody seems to notice that the Government is shelling out astronomical amounts of money just to keep the economy afloat. Unemployment alone is staggering. With Neptune Opposing Saturn for most of this year, we may not have noticed this, but the Government as we know is slowly eroding and wearing away. Before we know it, there won’t be anything left but corporations who will then take control. Actually, they’ve already been in control, they will just take control on an OBVIOUS level once the Government fails. This Government failure is likely to happen between now and next June – probably under the influence of the TOTAL Lunar Eclipse that takes place on Dec 21 – the Winter Solstice – and the date of greatest Evil of the whole year.
Also, since this Mercury Retrograde is in Virgo, we’ll be having more than a little focus on health, employees, pets and daily routines. Often the Retro Mercury can bring past friends and lovers back into the picture – so don’t be surprised if you suddenly hear from someone that you once were involved with. What you do with that is up to you. But the Retrograde of Mercury allows us to look at and resolve any issues that have been unfinished and hidden under the surface. Now is the time to get back the person you really love, or let go of the bad relationship pattern once and for all (or possibly both).
On the level of pets and daily routines, I live up in the mountains, next to national parkland – very wild terrain. And practically the instant that Mercury went Retrograde we started having issues with a Mountain Lion getting our sheep plus needing to rearrange the guard dogs to keep everybody safe.
Overall, this Retrograde is telling you how and what to do to prepare your daily routines for whatever is coming – basically an end to our US current style of living.

Mercury RETROGRADE ends TODAY the 11th of May, but he won’t leave the shadow until May 29 at 23′ Taurus. This means that we are not finished with all the corrections and details that the Retrograde brought to our attention. The good news is that this is the third and final review of this information making this the final cycle of closure and conclusion for all of the issues he brought to your attention.
Here’s a personal example to give you a better idea from my own life. I am a Taurus (Sun at ‘19) so Mercury hasn’t even gotten to my Sun yet, but he did cross my North Node at 6′ Taurus, in my 6th house of routines, health, and pets three times during this cycle. What it has meant for me is that I have been going through major changes about my whole life path and how it looks. I have gone back to the past of where I have lived, cleared up old business there, and ended things that no longer work for my life. In the meantime I have put together a new set of routines, and researched where I want to live next. I expect to make a decision and start the process right around the end of May.
If I hadn’t been prepared for these changes, and they were thrust upon me, or if I fought against them, it could have been a real nightmare. This is especially true since I was storing a lot of my stuff at my brother’s house, but he is letting it go back to the bank. If I hadn’t gone back to LA to put it in storage, who knows what would have happened to it! Because of the Retrograde I was ready and expecting all of it. Since I was flexible with my plans (not a normal Taurus trait) it has turned into a very enjoyable set of visits to the East Coast with friends that I haven’t seen for a very long time. So, ultimately, I am very happy about it all, and I expect to have a very clear plan, once I am done taking my time to make the decisions that really work for me on the deepest soul level (North Node stuff).
SO, by now, YOU should know what the Retrograde means to you, just based on observation. Use that experience and insight to finish up the loose ends and make some new things start happening now.
PLEASE NOTE!!! The ends and the beginnings of Astrological moments – like Mercury changing direction are the MOST INTENSE times – not watered down versions as most people born on the cusp believe! Let’s talk about Mercury Retrograde (Direct again on Oct 15th but not out of the shadow until Oct 30th). Over the years, my experience with the backtracking planet, that twisted trickster, monkey-wrench in the works joker of all jokers, Mercury, has given me much to cry about. But Mercury Retrograde has also given me much to laugh about.
I find the best way to do this is by telling you a story. Over the past few weeks while the little prankster has been going backwards, I have had to revamp my internet/wireless router, attempt to install a new dishwasher, travel all over town to pick up my mail from 3 different locations (don’t even ask), juggle returns for a phone jack, install Skype & AIM and catch up on my social networking. And if that wasn’t enough, I am now faced with the choice of which coffee shop I like best – there are 5 Starbucks (6 if you count the one inside Pavilions), 3 Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s and 1 Peets Coffee within walking distance! And of course there is my Libra brother that I’ve been worried about (Mercury is in Libra). And I haven’t even scratched the surface. Can you relate?
Then, of course there was the time during Mercury Retro I tried to replace a glass shelf for a bookshelf and after many trips to the glassman (which was it’s own trip to the dark side, but don’t distract me). I finally got what looked like a replacement shelf. But no, what I ended up with was a shelf that was HALF the thickness I needed – even after I had SPECIFIED THE SIZE. Of course it wasn’t in writing, so Mercury left me footing the bill. Ahhh, chalk it up to some kind of karmic payback. You see, this IS what Mercury Retrograde is up to – he’s balancing the scales. Somewhere, someplace I messed with a glassman, and now I had to pay the price! Mercury Retrograde cost me my pocket change.
YES, Mercury Retrograde rules pocket change, AND personal change. the best way to sum it up is with this very mercurial saying about change: “change comes from within.”
Mercury governs all these subjects: siblings, neighbors/neighborhoods, short trips, mail, phones, etc, etc. So, we can all see why the Retrograde Mercury has gotten such a bad rap. He sure is a BUSY bugger. But is it all BAD? I don’t think so.
But there’s more, the problems that Mercury’s highlighted are not news to me, I knew I’d have to deal with every last one of them. They just require attention. The fact is, once most of this is settled into a routine, a system or a clear course of action then there will be stability around all of them. This is an extremely GOOD thing. Not only that, but I know how to look at Astrological dates to plant seeds for new growth under prime Universal conditions. And Retrograde can actually be a VERY POWERFUL time to do this.

For those who don’t know or remember, back in 2005 & 6 I was writing in my PUBLISHED columns about Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac and saying that they were stressed to the breaking point and if they collapsed they would take out the whole US economy with them. I also said that the Government would bail out Fanny and Freddy over the individual consumer. This is exactly the crisis that Congress is trying to solve today with the 700 B bailout. They already saved Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, but now there’s no money to save the consumer.
Financial Crisis on Wall Street, in the Mortgage industry and in the Stock Market has everybody talking. This happened while Mercury has been either Retrograde or inside his shadow – he entered his shadow on Sept 3 at 8′ Libra, went Retrograde on Sept 24th at 22′ Libra, turns Direct on Oct 15 at 8′ Libra and finally leaves his shadow on Oct 30 at 22′ Libra. What this means is that we will hear a lot more drama on these subjects until the end of October.
Why has retrograde Mercury stirred up so much trouble? It has more to do with the aspects he’s triggering than the fact that he’s retrograde. But no doubt amateur astro-buffs of all stripes will blame him. The real reason this has been so staggering to the US economy stems from the 3 fold aspects that square the US Sun & Venus.
Also, last summer the crisis began with all the mortgage companies that collapsed during the Venus Retrograde. Like I always say, Retrograde just shows us what needs to be fixed. Fix it and we’re fine. Ignore it and we’ve got problems.
In October the other major retrograde we need to be aware of is the Chiron Retrograde since last May 25 at 21′ Aquarius. He goes direct on Oct 25th at 16′ Aquarius. This one is another story altogether. Over the summer Chiron has been responsible for a trend towards finding a spiritual tribe to belong to.
Re-union and reconnection has been highlighted – weather consciously or not. What happens when Chiron goes direct at the end of October is that we feel and find the need to team up with and join our tribe. It becomes more and more clear to us all that we belong with people who ‘get it’ about us and we don’t want to waste our time with those who don’t. In fact doing so will be hard on our health and well-being. So heed his call and join up with the team that you really belong to.

Aries: Long-term issues come up for review and clearing this month – especially around your family or those who are part of your team. Responsibility, action, and everybody carrying their own load all needs to be evaluated. Here’s a thought: a physical problem cannot be resolved on the mental plane. First the Aries Full Moon asks you to let go of a military approach to problems because taking charge, or being demanding just won’t work. Leo: You feel like a genius when you hit on the long term solution to a current problem this month, and it IS a brilliant solution. Just don’t go overboard with hype or lofty words. Pisces: On a global level you are really setting up your long-range system and plan. You’ll get the help you need as well because Mars – god of action and military might is on your side. The loose ends that began before summer begin to get wrapped up this month as the luminaries all change moods at the same time. On the 8th Jupiter turns Direct at 13′ Capricorn and then on the 9th Pluto turns Direct at 28′ Sagittarius. So if there is a prize or goal you’ve been putting off all summer – get ready because you will suddenly feel the need to plow full boar forward towards it once these two power players change directions. Because Jupiter is aligned with Saturn all month, much of this progress will be a direct result of current pain, problems and limitations. There’s nothing like a challenge to motivate people towards a new plan.
Aries: There’s a whole tangled mess of knots and string that you need to unwind, untie, wrap and organize this month and it’s called partnerships. Nothing is clear or straightforward. Cancer: Sept 15 is a New Moon in Pisces then Sept 29 is the Full Moon in Libra. A mixed bag of things emerges for you this month. On one hand great good luck and good fortune is opening up for you in your partnerships, but this blessing may come on the heels of something you need to give up or let go of. Releasing an old useless attitude or philosophy is extremely important if you hope to take full advantage of the new and good that’s coming your way – so don’t hang on to the past TOO tightly.
Leo: You are focused on the group and what the group needs and wants. The screwy Mercury/Mars/Venus cycle in Libra will create drama though. So expect your career/marriage status to be up in the air and unsettled for the next few months. Oh, to heck with it, why not just focus on your career and leave this relationship stuff to sort itself out for the next few months? I think that might be a much easier way to deal with it. Focus on your goal, let the drama take care of itself.
Aquarius: Teams and groups are in sharp focus for you all month long. You’re sure to attract at least a few charming and delightful teammembers this month, which will bring a big smile to your face. Getting people all riled up and motivated by a dream, goal or aspiration is the key ingredient and leads you to be surrounded by exciting and stimulating new people. Just what the doctor ordered – a shot of excitement to help you get things done.
Pisces: Cockeyed optimism, delicate balance and unsteady alliances rule the month for you. Yes, you know it’s time to team up with people, yes you know there may be strange dealings ahead, yes you know you might not be able to fully count on what they are saying now. Mercury continues to be Retrograde in Gemini until the 18th, but he won’t leave his shadow until the Fourth of July – which should make for an interesting display of patriotism, especially in the media and in computer discussions (both ruled by Mercury).
Also on the 18th, we have a Full Moon at 28′ Sagittarius, kicking off a cycle of large-scale exodus from some kind of group or allegiance over the next few weeks, it will be a very interesting month. The good news this month comes in the form of the protection being offered by the stars to lovers, artists and others who lead with their hearts.
But as for the rest of JUNE; mid-month aspects bring the concepts of lust and love together at last. With the planetary line-up in Gemini of Sun, Mercury and Venus we have a whole she-bang of duality facing us square in our mooney eyed reflections. You see, most of us on planet earth struggle with a polarity around relationships: lust vs love, security vs satisfaction. The whole madonna vs whore deal-i-o that pervades our mass consciousness has driven hordes of the population to take little blue ED pills and pump silocone into parts of our bodies where it never belonged. Wouldn’t it be good to have our cake (I mean sex) and enjoy it too? Today we finally get to examine these underlying assumptions and make a break for it to get away from past (frustrating) conditioning.
The first half of the month is filled with frustrations and power-struggles, even obsession. There’s a heavy duty arm wrestling match going on, especially between the 5th and the 17th, but then things should ease up some. But don’t say I didn’t warn you that some people are just plain voracious now. Most of June’s energy favors breaking things up and clearing them out, which makes this an ideal month to end contracts, get out of unwanted commitments and release yourself from cloying obligations. A few suggestions: trade the SUV in for a hybrid, retrofit your house for solar panals, prepare an area for a garden and generally cut loose any wasteful habits that are bad for you and the environment. This is also a month that is only good for temporary solutions to problems – not permanent ones.
aries – You start the month on some kind of a roll as everyone’s favorite ‘go-to’ guy or gal. This allows you to feel appreciated for your talents and abilities, which is very rewarding. One word of caution though: be sure that you aren’t being used for someone else’s agenda that serves THEIR goals but not your OWN. In other words, being appreciated is great and nice, just as long is it isn’t costing you progress on your own dreams. The question is, would you rather be popular or would you rather be loyal to yourself?
taurus – You are protected from any real harm this month, which is a good thing because somehow you suddenly find yourself tangled up in a battle of wills. Who will win? Well the battle is clearly over power and who has it. In any battle of power, the ‘winner’ is always the person who has access to their own personal power. Personal power means connecting to your inner source. The power is within, it isn’t connected to other people. The sooner you know that in your bones, the sooner you will be free of outside interference and frustrations.
gemini – You are very good at telling the right story to the right people this month and doing so will gain you some strong supporters. Just be sure that you are staying true in your stories, after all, once we start spinning things sideways it gets harder and harder to keep track of all the variations that everyone has heard. In the long run, it’s probably easier and less effort to just craft a clear, strong and compelling message that reflects your deepest truth. This is your challenge now: what exactly IS your deepest truth?
cancer – A complete overhaul of your daily routines is underway. You may quit a job, leave a network or group affiliation or just feel ‘over-it’ regarding a philosophy, form of education or ideology. “To everthing there is a season” and this season is for leaving behind the group-think that doesn’t bring you what you need. Don’t bother analyzing it, don’t bother explaining it. Fighting about it is just an exhaustion you don’t need, so try to aviod that. All you really need to do is be true to you. So if it aint workin’ for ya, then say sionara Sunshine.
leo – You can get things done this month, which makes you feel effective and at the center of the action. Meanwhile there is a whole heap of outward objection to what you are associated with. It is the philosophical conflicts that are at the heart of the matter. To win the battle but to fight an immoral war, well how do we justify this? Each of us must look into our own hearts to find what is morally right for themselves. Now you are being asked to align with your inner truth, anything less and you will only hurt yourself in the long run.
virgo – Aaack! I feel for the Virgin this month. So much to try to handle, so little help or clarity from others. Try and cut through the confusion, try not to get swept up in it. There is a tinge of hysteria taking place now, and you will want to aviod it at all costs. My sensitive mind-powered friend that you are; don’t allow other people’s confusion, anger, agression or verbal acrobatics to throw you off-center. It is only when you are IN your center that you know what is true. Then you can be the laser-beam that cuts to the heart of the matter.
libra – Self-expression is good and healthy, just be cautious that you don’t whip up a frenzy of hot-buttons and emotional reactiveness in your audience for no reason. Many people are hair-trigger now, and this is not a fun environment to live in (except for speed freaks and other adrenaline junkies). The last thing you want to do is ADD to the unpredictible, reactionary and heated environment. SOMEBODY needs to have a cool head, maybe it can begin with you?
scorpio – You are being forced into the forefront – like it or not. All eyes are on you to see how you react, how you handle things and what you do next. It is up to you to set the tone. This brings up mixed feelings in you: while secretly you’ve always wanted to be on center stage, you also dread the heat you take there. This is why you keep your deepest feelings so very private. Well now is the time to share them. It might not be fun or comfortable, but it’s time. It is also your road to the loyalty and and connection you truly desire.
sagittarius – ‘Say goodnight Gracie’ because there is something that you are letting go of this month. Perhaps it is a partnership. It will definitely change your role in public affiliations and groups, so be prepared to embrace the new and unexpected. pisces – A code of conduct is a great thing to have. This month you get to examine yours, including the unconscious parts that you probably inherited from your Dad. Once you drag it out into the light of day you can decide if you really agree with it or not. Then you can rewrite it according to your own real values and beliefs. Anything that doesn’t meet your true inner code isn’t worth doing, but first you’ve got to get clear on what that code IS, now you get to do so.
This means that for the next few weeks we will be playing ‘goundhogs day’ with the events that took place from about May 12-26. Expect to see and hear from those people again, expect to have the same information come across your desk (or inbox), expect to have those contracts you thought would be finished come back to you revised and changed. I could regale you with stories of my travels to the East Coast on Labor day weekend (when Merc was slowing down). I could tell you all about the flight delay, getting in too late to get a rental car, then the booked up hotels, forcing me into the worst over-priced room I’ve ever stayed at; with no hot water for a shower in the morning. I could tell you about how the place I reserved my car CLOSED at 12 noon, so when I got there at 1 pm I had to turn around and go back to the airport – an hour away – to get a car (at 3 times the price). I could go on and on. But then I would be acting like Gemini!

Today was the Superbowl. Today was the biggest Superbowl upset in HISTORY. This news story is all over the world, the forums are on fire with hot discussion about it, and doesn’t exactly surprise me to see it.
I am not a huge Football fan, but I usually watch the Superbowl. This one happened so close to the Solar Eclipse on the 7th that public upsets and surprises were almost to be expected. The Eclipse is in Aquarius – which effects masses of people, but to me that’s not enough to explain WHY FOOTBALL?!? And for that I gotta tag the Movement of Retrograde Mercury attached to the Eclipse itself.
This means news, strange news, and especially news about the leader (in this case the Patriots) disappearing from view. The Patriots were supposed to have this win all sewn up and in the bag. How could things go so wrong? Blame it on this strange twisted Mercury Retrograde + Solar Eclipse.
And that’s not all SUPER TUESDAY – when we all vote for our primary candidates – will also be effected by this Solar Eclipse. Oh yeah baby, the news has only just started to spin. Pretty soon all of our heads will be spinning too, just you wait. A Solar Eclipse nearly always steals the thunder away from the ‘Golden Boy’ or favored winner. In the Virgo personality mental flexibility is dedicated to storing information and checking details. The Virgo generally is interested in finding and storing data, so that they can prove any hypothesis that they should be asked to follow out. The Virgo wants every piece of information to be put in its proper place. Disarray makes them feel nervous. And a nervous Virgo is a critical Virgo. They can’t help it, they just notice every item or comment that’s casually thrown about, and want to find it a home. A big secret about Virgo is that they are very sensitive, and want to extend their own need for order and calm to include everyone else. One other note about MERCURY is that 3 times a year it goes retrograde. This means that from the perspective of the Earth it appears to stop and then travel backwards along its orbit for a period of several weeks. During this time communication foul-ups increase, people from the past resurface and previous words and/or work often need to be clarified and revised.
